Einride plans to add 500 Tesla Semi trucks to its North American electric truck fleet. The Swedish logistics technology company describes this initiative as the largest deployment of electric trucks in the world to date. The rollout is set to begin in September and will take place over 24 months in several phases. According to the company, this will triple the number of electric trucks operated by Einride. Reports estimate that the fleet size will reach around 750 vehicles after the rollout is complete.
The electric trucks are intended to handle deliveries for Amazon and other Einride customers, among others. They are scheduled to operate on freight corridors in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia. According to Einride, the acquisition will be fully funded through third-party financing solutions. As a result, the agreement applies initially only to North America. The company has not announced any plans to deploy the 500 Tesla Semi trucks in Europe.
Einride integrates the vehicles into its fleet platform, Saga AI. According to the company, this platform coordinates various aspects such as vehicle deployment, charging times, and energy costs. For large fleets of battery electric commercial vehicles, these factors are crucial for operations, as charging windows and available charging capacity must be taken into account when planning routes and tasks. Einride claims that its platform has processed over 19 million electric miles and 42,000 optimization tasks to date.
Autonomous driving, another focus of Einride alongside electrification, is not part of the deployment concept described in the announcement regarding the 500 Tesla Semi trucks. The Swedish company operates its own programs for driverless electric trucks, while Tesla is currently advancing its autonomous driving efforts primarily through passenger cars and robotaxis.
Tesla Trucks as Part of a Cross-Manufacturer Fleet
For Tesla, the deal with Einride opens up significantly broader commercial use for its heavy electric trucks. Einride remains committed to a cross-manufacturer procurement strategy: CEO Roozbeh Charli told Reuters that the company now sources vehicles from five to six truck brands. Thus, the 500 Tesla Semi trucks do not necessarily replace cooperation with established European commercial vehicle manufacturers within the Einride network.
Economically, this rollout is part of Einride’s further expansion in the U.S. The company reported a currency-adjusted sales growth of 26 percent for the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. Financing the Tesla fleet through external capital providers limits the immediate capital needs for vehicle acquisition under the currently published model. Einride did not disclose any information regarding purchase prices, leasing rates, or specific operating costs for the 500 vehicles in the announcement.
For Germany and Europe, the agreement is currently significant mainly as a large-scale practical case study for battery-electric heavy-duty transportation, rather than as the announced launch of the Tesla Semi market. The manufacturer plans to bring its electric trucks to Europe later, and Einride has its focus there. Thus, the Swedes could potentially use Tesla Semi vehicles in European countries as well in the future.
