Here is the ID.Tiguan: Volkswagen has released the first images of the electric SUV that will replace the ID.4-ID.5 duo.

The transition is delicate, as the ID.4 has so far been VW’s best-selling electric vehicle by a large margin. It is even more in demand than the ID.3, which was originally planned to take over from the Golf in the electric segment. But the German group’s strategy now is to use well-known names even in zero-emission models. Thus, following the ID.Polo, comes the ID.Tiguan, which is essentially an improved version of the ID.4. “Over 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced demonstrate the strength and trust associated with this model’s name,” explains Thomas Schäfer, head of the VW brand. “The all-electric version builds on the strengths of this bestseller. It offers a premium design, ample space, intuitive operation, and innovative technologies. Together, both models provide a strong lineup to meet our customers’ diverse propulsion preferences.”
A more robust look, less playful
Following the reports of a name change that surfaced in early August, Volkswagen released the first images of the ID.Tiguan online. The photos are slightly obscured by pixels, but the new design lines are clearly visible. The front end becomes more angular, featuring a subtle continuous signature and a tougher appearance typically reserved for conventional models. In the side and rear views, according to the German publication Electrive, “VW moves away from some of the playful details of previous ID models. Classic door handles and a more distinctly shaped rear hatch with a continuous light strip emphasize its SUV-like, down-to-earth character. Combined with aerodynamically optimized wheels and a robust shoulder line, the ID.Tiguan appears more dynamic…” In short: it’s a blend of the design lines from the previous ID.4 and the Tiguan models with internal combustion engines.
