Direct investment for entrepreneurs: ELMI sells battery fast charging stations

ELMI Power GmbH offers a new investment model for medium-sized enterprises, freelancers, and self-employed individuals. Investors purchase battery-powered fast charging stations as their own assets and operate them at their own risk. Upon request, ELMI handles planning, installation, maintenance, and billing.

ELMI Power GmbH, a German energy and charging infrastructure company, has developed battery-powered fast charging systems that are now available for corporate direct investment. Through ELMI IAB Investment, business owners, freelancers, and medium-sized enterprises can request consultation or a quote. A variety of products suitable for different applications are available, ranging from fully integrated charging stations for retail use to charging connectors with scalable battery storage for logistics and fleet management companies.

Since this involves the acquisition of a depreciable, movable asset under fixed assets, self-employed individuals and small to medium-sized enterprises can utilize the investment deduction (IAB) within the framework of legal requirements. This allows them to claim a portion of the planned investment costs as a deduction from profits even before the actual purchase. Whether and to what extent this provision applies in a given case requires individual assessment by a tax advisor.

ELMI projects a non-binding target return of eight to 15 percent per year. Revenue is expected to come from five sources. In addition to direct electricity sales to electric vehicle owners, income will be generated through automated energy trading, where the buffer battery is charged at favorable times and the electricity is sold profitably. Additional sources include earnings from greenhouse gas reduction quotas, selling storage capacity for system services to manage peak loads in the power grid, and advertising revenue from integrated digital displays at charging stations.

Although buyers bear the full economic risk as owners, ELMI provides services related to site selection, installation, maintenance, operation, and billing for a fee.
