DHL receives 25 electric bridge converters from TII Kamag

TII Kamag, a manufacturer of special vehicles from Ulm, is supplying 25 electric transfer bridge units to DHL. These are intended for use in yard logistics at various DHL sorting centers in Germany. The vehicles help to quickly and accurately transfer or maneuver standardized containers from conventional trucks.

Transfer bridges have long been one of the key elements in DHL’s package logistics. Their greatest advantage is that the loading unit and the transport vehicle can be separated from each other. This makes handling packages between distribution centers, trucks, and delivery locations more flexible and helps meet the tight deadlines in the package industry. A truck driver can park their transfer bridge on four legs at a distribution center, load another one, and continue driving right away. At the same time, these cargo containers can be transported around the facility between gates, ramps, and storage areas using special transfer bridge handlers.

DHL is now electrifying its yard logistics using transfer bridges on a large scale: For its parcel delivery service, the company has acquired 25 electric transfer bridge converters from Ulm-based firm TII Kamag. These are units of the Kamag ePrecisionMover (ePM) model, designed to ensure smooth handling operations.

The Kamag ePrecisionMover helps reduce downtime and waiting times in the yard significantly, thanks to its short lifting and lowering times as well as agile maneuvering capabilities, according to the company. This is said to directly impact overall facility efficiency and the ability to meet tight deadlines in handling operations.

"The demands on package networks are continuously increasing, both in terms of handling capacity and sustainability. With the Kamag ePM, we offer a solution that combines these two aspects and can be seamlessly integrated into existing as well as scalable logistics processes," says Godehard Eidenhammer, Sales Manager at Hoflogistik of TII Kamag.

It is currently unclear whether the electric bridge stackers now acquired by DHL are the third generation of the classic ePrecisionMover introduced in 2024, which features a battery capacity of 140 kWh and a DC charging power of 100 kW. Or whether they are the newer ePrecisionMover 101 with a newly designed driver’s cab, improvements in ergonomics and safety, an updated control concept, and a battery capacity of 160 kWh.

DHL was the first customer to purchase a diesel-powered bridge stacker from TII Kamag back in 1995. Since then, the company has continuously expanded its fleet with vehicles from this manufacturer. For the electric bridge stackers, TII Kamag also cites logistics companies Dachser and Noerpel as reference customers.
