Starting at 38,974 euros: here’s BYD’s new electric SUV with a 130 kWh battery that charges to 100% in 9 minutes

Until now, those who wanted a Denza N8L had only one mechanical option: plug-in hybrid. That has just changed. BYD’s premium brand has introduced the all-electric version of this large six-seater SUV, expanding the choices for families looking for a spacious vehicle without relying on a combustion engine. A few days ago, BYD shared some details about the electric N8L, which have now been fully disclosed.
The novelty isn’t just commercial. With this variant, Denza adds a new model to the lineup of vehicles equipped with its second-generation Blade battery and BYD’s ultra-fast charging technology—two technologies the brand uses as selling points in almost all its recent models. Denza is already present in Europe, and it’s very likely the N8L will join the continental fleet, though not before mid-2027.
Two versions and a clear price gap
The Denza N8L BEV is available in two trims: Flash Charging Prestige, priced at 299,800 yuan, which is around 38,974 euros at the current exchange rate, and Flash Charging Flagship, which comes with additional features and costs 329,800 yuan, approximately 42,874 euros. For comparison, the plug-in hybrid version with fast charging that Denza launched in June started at 319,800 yuan, about 41,574 euros, so the entry-level electric variant is even lower in price.
A battery of over 130 kWh and an 800-volt architecture
The heart of the new N8L electric vehicle is a second-generation Blade battery with a capacity of 130.15 kWh, mounted on an 800-volt electrical architecture. This combination allows the car to travel up to 960 kilometers according to China’s CLTC testing cycle (778 km under WLTP), and it is also compatible with BYD’s ultra-fast charging technology. At stations equipped for this — which we have already tested — compatible vehicles from the brand can go from 10% to 70% battery charge in just 5 minutes, and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes.
Unlike other models in the brand lineup with dual or triple motors, the electric N8L features a single motor located at the rear axle, with a maximum power output of 370 kW, equivalent to around 503 traditional horsepower. It adopts a pure rear-wheel drive configuration without an additional front motor, which simplifies its mechanics compared to other large electric SUVs in the Denza range.
Same dimensions as the hybrid version, with a larger front trunk
In terms of dimensions, the electric N8L retains exactly the same body as its plug-in hybrid sibling: 5,200 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm and seating capacity for six passengers in a 2+2+2 layout. The novelty lies in the front trunk, which is now 208 liters in size and features a drain with a plug designed to allow easy rinsing, useful for those carrying camping gear or items stained with mud or sand.
The new Denza N8L features BYD’s DiSus-A body control system, which combines a dual-chamber air suspension with continuously variable damping (CDC). This is complemented by all-wheel steering, which reduces the minimum turning radius to 4.58 meters—a figure typical for a vehicle over 5 meters long that facilitates maneuvering in tight spaces. In Europe, it would be classified as a large SUV, on par with models like the BMW X7, Mercedes GLS, and Audi Q9.
