The Denza N8L EV will make its debut in September. BYD is adding an electric version to this 6-seater SUV.
Denza will introduce a fully electric version of the N8L model in September, which is a large SUV with a 2+2+2 seating arrangement. The announcement was made on Weibo on August 30, but the brand has yet to reveal the price, range, or powertrain details. What’s most interesting for readers is that BYD apparently wants to incorporate its latest fast charging technology into this vehicle, rather than just changing the logo on the trunk.
The current N8L is available only as a PHEV. It first hit the market in October 2025 at 299,800 yuan, and in June 2026 it received a new version with so-called flash charging for 319,800 yuan, an increase of 20,000 yuan.
A large trunk and a big question mark regarding specifications
Denza shows on its official graphics that the N8L EV will feature a front trunk with a capacity of 208 liters. It is supposed to open electrically and, according to the brand’s CEO Li Hui, it will be large enough to hold camping or beach equipment. The manufacturer also highlights a drain with a cover, allowing the compartment to be rinsed after transporting sand or mud. It’s a family-friendly detail, but one that makes sense.
What’s much more important is what we still don’t know. Denza has not revealed the battery capacity, charging speed, performance, or range. For now, we can only assume the car will come equipped with solutions known from BYD’s latest models, such as the second-generation Blade battery and flash charge charging. On paper, this sounds good. Until actual numbers are available, it remains just a promise.
The PHEV, after its June update, features an 800 V architecture and a second-generation Blade battery with a capacity of 75.26 kWh. In electric mode, it is said to offer a CLTC range of 430 km, and it can charge from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes at dedicated Denza charging stations. These are naturally figures for a plug-in hybrid and based on the Chinese CLTC cycle, so we automatically include a star rating.
The N8L is over 5.2 meters long, and Denza is turning things around in sales
The dimensions of the current N8L are already known, as this EV is set to join the existing model lineup. The car measures 5200 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3075 mm. It comes standard with a 2+2+2 6-seater layout. In the flash charging version, the manufacturer also adds the e3 control system, DiSus-A suspension, and the God’s Eye 5.0 driver assistance package with a lidar.
The second aspect is market-related. Denza sold 19,196 cars in July, representing a year-on-year increase of 68.76 percent but a month-on-month decline of 5.68 percent. From January to July, the brand delivered 85,737 vehicles, still 6 percent below the same period last year. Nevertheless, there is improvement, as the decline in the first half of the year was 16.65 percent.
BYD is simultaneously expanding its own charging ecosystem. As of August 28, the company had 10,000 fast charging stations in China and aims to reach 20,000 by the end of the year. If the N8L EV indeed gets this technology, it will be another vehicle that makes sense mainly where BYD’s infrastructure exists. And this is the most honest caveat regarding this launch.
Denza is therefore showing not only a new version of the engine but also testing whether a large family EV can be sold better than a large family PHEV. What do you think the price point would need to be for such an N8L EV to have real prospects outside of China?
