The Denza N8L EV will make its debut on September 14. 130 kWh LFP battery and 208 liters of trunk space in a 3.1-ton SUV

Denza will unveil the electric version of the N8L in China on September 14. This large 6-seater SUV is equipped with a 130.15 kWh battery, a claimed CLTC range of 960 km, and a front trunk with a capacity of 208 liters.

On paper, it looks impressive. But we’re also talking about a vehicle weighing 3,110 kg and a range measured under the CLTC cycle, so it’s best to approach this with caution.

Large battery, one engine, and surprisingly small turning radius

The Denza N8L EV has a length of 5,200 mm, a width of 1,999 mm, a height of 1,820 mm, and an axle spacing of 3,075 mm. Chinese certification documents list its curb weight at 3,110 kg.

The power comes from a single rear permanent magnet synchronous motor with 370 kW of output, equivalent to 503 horsepower. The top speed is 240 km/h. This is an interesting development, as earlier engineering registrations showed a three-engine version, but the model that went into production features just one engine at the rear.

The battery is a 130.15 kWh LFP Blade Battery from FinDreams Battery, which is part of BYD. The manufacturer claims 960 km CLTC range, which translates to around 785 km WLTC. That’s just theory. In practice, the highway conditions will have an impact, especially with such a heavy vehicle.

The N8L EV also features a DiSus-A air suspension with dual-chamber tires and an active rear steering axis. The rear wheels can turn by ±10 degrees, giving it a turning radius of 4.58 meters. For a car that’s 5.2 meters long, this is an excellent result.

The RWD layout also means there’s more space in the front for a trunk. It’s quite large, holding 208 liters. Li Hui, head of Denza, even refers to it as a washable trunk that can be cleaned after transporting camping or beach gear. It’s a simple yet practical idea.

Inside, the cabin uses a 2+2+2 layout, meaning six seats, along with brown upholstery.

DiPilot 300, Competitors, and Price Question

The N8L EV will come equipped with the DiPilot 300 driver assistance system, sold in China as God’s Eye B. The sensor suite includes 1 lidar, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 12 cameras. The car is designed to support highway and urban autonomous driving, automated parking, and obstacle avoidance.

Denza enters a market segment where each competitor offers something slightly different. The Nio ES8 has a 102 kWh battery, 520 kW power output, a CLTC range of 635 km, a 230 liter frunk, and starts at 498,000 yuan. The Aito M9 EV offers 100 kWh, 390 kW power, a CLTC range of 630 km, a 150 liter frunk, and a price starting at 509,800 yuan. The Li Auto L8 uses an EREV configuration, with a 52.3 kWh battery, 330 kW power output, an electric range of 280 km, and a price starting at 321,800 yuan.

In comparison, Denza’s package is about 28 percent larger than that of the ES8 and roughly 30 percent larger than that of the Aito M9 EV. Its frunk is bigger than Aito’s but smaller than Nio’s.

The price of the BEV version has not been revealed yet. For comparison, the hybrid Denza N8L started at 299,800 yuan in October 2025, with later Flash Charging versions costing between 319,800 and 349,800 yuan.

There is another, more practical concern. Such a battery involves enormous material costs. At the beginning of September, lithium carbonate for batteries cost around 152,000 yuan per ton. Denza has not yet specified the DC charging capacity or 0-100 km/h acceleration, so these key figures are still pending announcement.

In terms of sales, the N8L already has a solid foundation. In July, it sold 4,460 units in China, representing a 11.4% month-on-month increase and the best performance since December 2025. However, within the brand, Denza D9 remains the top seller, with 6,873 units sold in July.

If Denza prices the N8L EV correctly, it could target the large electric SUV market without relying on a range extender story. What do you think the starting price for this BEV version will be?
