China once again sets unimaginable sales figures in the European market. Arcfox, the electric vehicle brand owned by BAIC, officially launched its new Alpha T7 on September 16 and needed just one hour to exceed 30,000 pre-orders. This strong response wasn’t unexpected—during the presale phase, the model had already received over 60,000 orders.
The price and its specifications help explain such interest. The range starts at 132,800 yuan, approximately 17,300 euros at current exchange rates, and for that amount, it offers an SUV with a length of 5,020 mm. The electric versions achieve up to 715 km of CLTC range, while the extended-range models can travel 320 km using only their battery and up to 1,315 km by combining electricity and gasoline.
30,000 orders in one hour and up to 1,315 km of range
The Arcfox Alpha T7 enters the Chinese market in 9 different versions: 4 EREV models with range extenders and 5 fully electric ones. The launch promotional prices range from 132,800 to 168,800 yuan, approximately equivalent to 17,300 to 21,940 euros. The initial price is also 5,000 yuan (650 euros) lower than what was announced during the pre-order phase.
The performance varies significantly depending on the chosen drivetrain. The Alpha T7 electric model uses an 800-volt architecture with silicon carbide technology and a rear motor that produces 309 horsepower. The LFP batteries supplied by CATL allow for range options of up to 650 or 715 kilometers. The 800-volt architecture also enables high-speed charging. Arcfox claims the vehicle can recover enough energy to cover an additional 270 kilometers in just 10 minutes.
The EREV alternative features an electric motor with 272 horsepower along with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that acts as a range extender. Its 43.9 kWh LFP battery enables up to 320 kilometers of driving without using gasoline, while the combined range reaches the aforementioned 1,315 kilometers.
Over five meters long with Huawei technology
Arcfox didn’t opt for a small SUV to keep costs low at this price point. The Alpha T7 measures 5,020 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. These are dimensions typical of a large SUV, yet its body features a sleek design and achieves an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.251.
The front end eliminates a conventional grille and features a 1,700 mm long light bar running across it. Inside, even the traditional dashboard is gone, with its functions taken over by a massive 43.3-inch panoramic screen that spans the entire width of the cabin. At the center of the dashboard is a 17.3-inch screen with 3K resolution and a processor manufactured using 4-nanometer technology. It offers 5G connectivity, AI-driven controls, Huawei HiCar, and Apple CarPlay.
The vehicle’s large exterior dimensions also contribute to a spacious interior. Arcfox claims an internal space utilization rate of 88.8%. The rear trunk has a capacity of 645 liters, which can increase to 1,845 liters when the seats are folded down. Electric versions also come with a 200-liter front trunk.
With Huawei ADS 5 and at half the price of a Xiaomi YU7
The higher versions come equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 driving assistance system, though it isn’t standard across the entire range. It uses 27 sensors and Huawei’s integrated laser vision technology to provide assistance features for both highway and urban driving, as well as automated parking in over 160 scenarios.
Its pricing is particularly aggressive when compared to one of the biggest commercial successes in the Chinese market. The Xiaomi YU7 currently starts at 253,500 yuan (32,960 euros), which is almost double the 132,800 yuan price of the most affordable Alpha T7.
Xiaomi operates in a different market position, and its commercial success has been even more remarkable, so the figures are not directly comparable. However, the over 30,000 orders placed by Arcfox in just 60 minutes demonstrate the level of competition currently existing in China.
