After three-quarters of a century of presence in the country, Renault Group will manufacture electric vehicles in Spain for the first time. The announcement comes as part of the futuREady strategic plan, which includes an investment of 600 million euros allocated between 2026 and 2030 to strengthen the Group’s industrial and engineering centers in Spain during a period of rapid technological transformation.

The investment aims not only to modernize existing machinery but also to prepare Spanish factories for a new product cycle characterized by operational excellence and electrification. According to Christian Stein, CEO of Renault Group España, "Spain is a strategic country for the Group, not only in terms of production and sales but also due to the ecosystem created around its own activities, including component suppliers, energy providers, and mobility services."

An investment combining internal funds and government support

The total funding combines resources from the Renault Group with national and regional government subsidies aimed at industrial transformation and sustainable mobility, and it receives support from both the Spanish Government and the Junta de Castilla y León. It is a mixed financing model that positions governments as active partners in this industrial initiative, rather than just observers.

The decision to increase investments in Spain is directly based on the agreement reached with trade union representatives through the signing of the collective bargaining agreement for 2026-2028. Among the factors that were decisive in securing this new industrial plan, Renault highlights the competitiveness shown by Spanish factories, the quality of their production processes, the operational excellence of their teams, and the adoption of new industrial technologies.

Five new models to be produced in Valladolid and Palencia

The rollout of the futuREady plan in Spain includes the introduction of five new models to the factories in Valladolid and Palencia, two of which are electric C-SUV vehicles. Additionally, the Carrocerías plant in Valladolid will benefit from a new battery assembly line, a crucial infrastructure to support the production of electric cars on site.

The cornerstone of the entire plan is the assignment to the Palencia factory of the RGEV Medium 2.0 800-volt electric platform, which the group itself describes as its most advanced architecture for the next generation of electric vehicles. Part of the futuREady plan, this platform features technologies that enable up to 750 kilometers of WLTP range in electric mode and up to 1,400 kilometers in extended-range versions, with fast charging times of just 10 minutes.

Over 6,000 direct jobs secured for the future

This plan reinforces Spain’s strategic role within the Group’s global industrial framework and helps secure the future of over 6,000 direct jobs. The combination of new models, a new battery line, and a cutting-edge electric platform provides Spain’s plants with an industrial outlook that stretches several years ahead, especially as much of Europe’s automotive sector faces uncertainty and restructuring.

With the introduction of the RGEV Medium 2.0 platform in Palencia, Spanish factories will produce electric vehicles for the first time in Renault Group’s 75-year history in the country, marking a new era for both the company and the national automotive industry as a whole.
