With 600 kWh of battery capacity and a range of 560 km, Amazon is purchasing 50 new electric trucks from Mercedes for Europe

Amazon continues to electrify the heavy transportation used to move its goods across Europe. Mercedes-Benz Trucks has begun delivering over 50 units of the eActros 600, which will be used by various Amazon-affiliated transportation companies in Germany. The first trucks are already operating on logistics routes across the country, with the rest being added gradually over the coming months.
The acquisition is part of a much larger deal. Amazon announced at the beginning of 2025 its purchase of over 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks, the largest order for electric trucks by the company to date. Approximately 140 of these were initially destined for the United Kingdom and Germany, though Mercedes now confirms that more than 50 of them will operate specifically in the German market.
Over 600 kWh of battery capacity and up to 560 km of range without charging
The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 uses three LFP battery packs with a combined installed capacity of over 600 kWh, of which approximately 621 kWh is usable. Mercedes claims a range of around 500 km with a total weight of 40 tons, though early tests by Amazon have shown that certain routes allow for exceeding this figure.
One of the new trucks recently traveled about 560 km between Amazon’s logistics centers in Germany without any intermediate charging. The company states that these routes can support daily ranges exceeding 500 km, with the vehicles being charged primarily during drivers’ mandatory breaks and at night. Under favorable conditions, Mercedes estimates that the eActros 600 can even achieve daily ranges of over 1,000 km with intermediate charges.
The truck also features an electric axle developed specifically by Mercedes-Benz Trucks, with a continuous power output of 400 kW, approximately 544 horsepower, and peak powers up to 600 kW, equivalent to around 816 horsepower. Its LFP batteries are designed to last over 1.2 million kilometers during ten years of use while retaining more than 80% of their original capacity by the end of that period.
Amazon is developing its own truck charging network
Operating such an electric fleet also requires infrastructure. Amazon is installing 360 kW chargers at its European facilities, capable of charging the eActros 600’s battery from about 20% to 80% in less than 70 minutes. This allows drivers to use their breaks to recover much of the energy needed before continuing their journey.
The eActros 600 is also prepared for the future Megawatt Charging System (MCS), through which Mercedes aims to achieve power levels exceeding 1,000 kW. Under optimal conditions, a charge from 20% to 80% could be completed in approximately 30 minutes, further reducing one of the key operational differences compared to long-haul diesel trucks.
Amazon estimates that its order of over 200 eActros 600 trucks in Europe will enable more than 100 million kilometers of electric driving per year and prevent around 10,000 tons of CO2 from being emitted annually. For Mercedes-Benz Trucks, the deal also represents a large-scale demonstration that its electric trucks can handle long-distance routes that just a few years ago seemed reserved almost exclusively for diesel vehicles.
