I bought my first electric car in December 2024. It’s a 2022 Renault Megane with 23,000 km on it, which I’ve used to travel an additional 45 km or so without any problems or maintenance needs. Now I’m thinking about getting a second electric car. I’d give the Megane to my wife, who drives 60 km daily between home and work and usually uses it when I’m on business trips abroad. She’s fully satisfied with it and plugs it into the home wallbox every night to recharge. I’m looking for a vehicle with greater range, especially on the highway at 130 km/h rather than 110 km/h. The power and performance of a 160kW Megane are more than sufficient for my needs. Perhaps with a bit more cargo capacity—for example, the Megane lacks a frunk compartment, which would be convenient for storing cables. In short, I’m looking for a balanced car, not something massive and heavy like an armored vehicle.

What do you recommend with 45,000 euros and these specifications?

If I have a budget of 45,000 euros, what models would you recommend? I’m considering both new and used cars, as long as they were produced after 2025 and have under 40,000 km. Keeping these priorities in mind:

  1. Long WLTP range (over 500 km, ideally at least 400 km on the highway at allowed speeds)
  2. Fast charging capability (10-80% in less than 20 minutes)
  3. Standard size (I don’t want it to exceed 4.75 meters; the Tesla Model Y is at the limit here, with 4.50 meters being ideal)
  4. Adequate cargo capacity with a large trunk opening (where the Tesla Model 3 falls short)
  5. I prefer physical buttons over only touchpad or voice controls (even though people get used to them)
  • An intelligent and functional built-in navigation system (I don’t want to connect my phone to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay).
  • Already available for purchase with delivery by 2026.

    I’ve done more research and narrowed it down to 4 possible cars:

    1. TESLA MY STANDARD, which costs around 42,000 euros on the Tesla configurator. It doesn’t have an enormous battery but one that’s sufficient, with good WLTP range. It can charge a lot in the trunk, which is convenient for work. I think it will be the logical choice.
    2. THE TESLA M3 LONG RANGE RWD costs around 42,700 euros on the Tesla configurator. It has a large battery and excellent WLTP range, but the trunk is inconvenient, and tall passengers may find it a bit uncomfortable. If not for the unusable trunk space, it would be the ideal choice.
    3. THE SKODA ELROQ 85 with various accessories costs nearly 50,000 on the list price, but with discounts it drops to around 43,500. It has a very large battery and good WLTP range, along with a spacious and well-utilizable trunk. It doesn’t excite me as much as a car, but it would be a good option.
    4. THE XPENG L03 LONG RANGE costs less than 40,000. It has a large battery and good WLTP range, plus a big trunk. It comes standard with everything and more, offering better equipment than any other car at the same price point and segment. The design is nice, and everything is perfect except that deliveries start in spring.
