Chery reveals new Tiggo 7 and Tiggo X7 family SUVs in China

Chery has unveiled an all-new Tiggo 7 and the Tiggo X7, introducing a new SUV series as it broadens its pitch to family buyers worldwide. The vehicles made their global debuts in Wuhu, China, although the announcement leaves British motorists waiting for prices, powertrain specifications and confirmation of UK availability. The company has not outlined which international markets will receive either of the newcomers first.
The Tiggo X7 is the first model in Chery’s new Tiggo X series, with a brief covering everyday urban journeys and trips into the outdoors. The new Tiggo 7 puts greater emphasis on daily family transport, including commuting, school runs and weekend outings, with comfort and cabin space central to its positioning.
For drivers considering an electrified SUV, the biggest unanswered question is what will power the two newcomers. Chery promotes its existing UK range with Chery Super Hybrid technology, but the launch release does not confirm whether either newly revealed model will use that system or offer a fully electric version.
The unveiling took place at the Wuhu Grand Theatre on 21 October, during Chery Brand Night, part of the manufacturer’s 2026 Global User Summit. Families from the UK and five other countries attended, alongside Chery executives and former footballers Peter Crouch and Edwin van der Sar, both appearing as brand ambassadors.
A new direction for the Tiggo range
The introduction of the X7 gives Chery a new branch of its Tiggo line-up. Rather than presenting the vehicle solely around outdoor leisure, the company says it is intended to combine the comfort and convenience needed for urban driving with the ability to tackle varied road conditions.
That positioning places everyday usability alongside the promise of greater freedom to explore. Chery describes a vehicle intended for weekday commuting as well as family holidays, suggesting that the X series will address buyers who want one SUV to cover several different roles.
However, the announcement does not detail the engineering behind those ambitions. There is no confirmation of four-wheel drive, ground clearance, towing capacity or specific terrain modes. Buyers should therefore treat the outdoor emphasis as the model’s intended role, rather than evidence of a particular level of off-road capability.
Nor has Chery explained how the X7 will compare with the new Tiggo 7 in size, seating capacity or price. Despite the shared numeral in their names, the release does not establish whether they share a platform or mechanical components. The clearest distinction at this stage is their respective positioning.
The Tiggo 7 is described as an SUV designed to make busy daily journeys more relaxed and shared travel more enjoyable. Chery highlights a spacious, comfortable interior and emphasises quality and safety, although it has not supplied measurements or an equipment breakdown to substantiate those claims.
For family buyers, details such as boot capacity, rear passenger space and child-seat accommodation will help establish how that brief translates into practice. Those specifications are absent from the announcement, as are details of the infotainment system and driver assistance features.
Electrification details still to come
Chery’s established UK product strategy provides context for the launches, but it should not be confused with confirmation of the new vehicles’ specifications. The company says its current four-model British SUV range stretches from the compact Tiggo 4 to the flagship Tiggo 9, with Chery Super Hybrid technology available across it.
According to Chery, that electrified powertrain combines electric driving for everyday journeys with a petrol engine for longer distances. The manufacturer presents the arrangement as a way of accommodating daily family travel and less frequent longer trips within the same vehicle.

The new-model release supplies no battery capacities, electric driving ranges, charging speeds, power outputs or fuel consumption figures. Consequently, it does not yet allow a meaningful comparison between the newcomers and either Chery’s existing hybrid models or alternative electrified family SUVs.
Those omissions also mean there is no basis for estimating how much of a typical owner’s driving either new model could complete on electricity. A global unveiling establishes the vehicles’ identities and intended audiences, but the information British buyers need to assess running costs and suitability remains outstanding.
Family focus shapes the launch
Guibing Zhang, executive vice president of Chery Auto, said the company’s family positioning was intended to influence its vehicles and its relationship with customers.
“‘For Family’ has never been just a slogan. It is the standard by which we build our vehicles and the purpose behind our commitment to serving families worldwide.”
The event used stories from six families to illustrate the different needs the two SUVs are intended to meet. Participants from Ecuador, Poland and the UK discussed companionship, changing circumstances and supporting one another through difficult periods, providing the backdrop to the Tiggo 7’s focus on dependable everyday transport.

Families from Romania, South Africa and Brazil contributed accounts centred on careers, personal interests and exploring new opportunities together. Chery linked those experiences to the X7’s broader travel brief, presenting family life as compatible with journeys beyond familiar routines.
The approach gave the launch a strong lifestyle emphasis, with customer stories taking precedence over detailed technical presentations in the accompanying announcement. Chery cited a worldwide customer base exceeding 4.55 million, describing those relationships as a foundation for further improvements to its vehicles, products and services.
UK network provides the backdrop
The global reveals come as Chery continues establishing its own brand in Britain, following its UK launch in August 2025. The company says its national retail network now comprises 85 locations, supporting a range built around the Tiggo SUV family.
Its UK ownership package includes a seven-year warranty and complimentary roadside assistance. These are details of the brand’s existing offer; the release does not set out separate terms for the newly unveiled Tiggo 7 or X7, or announce when British customers might be able to order them.
Chery also points to recent awards as evidence of its reception in the UK. According to the company, it was named Best Value Brand at the Auto Trader Drivers’ Choice Awards 2026, while the seven-seat Tiggo 8 won Carwow’s Car of the Year 2026 award.
The manufacturer’s British marketing partnerships include AFC Bournemouth, Soccer Aid 2026, Sir Mo Farah, Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy. Those associations form part of a localisation strategy that Chery says prioritises understanding individual markets, sustained investment and integration with local communities.
Behind the UK operation sits Chery Group, which the company says has surpassed 20 million cumulative vehicle sales worldwide. The business has nearly three decades of automotive experience, providing the corporate backdrop to the two new SUVs and the wider international customer gathering in Wuhu.
