Jetour is another of the many brands under Chery Group, the owners of the well-known OMODA and JAECOO. This division, specialized in developing adventure-themed SUVs, has launched the Traveller 7 in China. It is a mid-size SUV with the family’s square design, and its biggest novelty is a plug-in hybrid version that the brand calls C-DM.

This launch comes at a time when Chery is shifting its strategy, aiming to elevate Jetour to a more premium position. If the brand ever expands into Europe, it is this plug-in hybrid version that is likely to lead the way. Meanwhile, another of Chery’s SUV brands, iCAUR, has confirmed its presence in Europe. The V27 will be the first of its vehicles to reach our shores.

A hybrid system of 510 HP and 550 Nm

The Traveller 7 will be sold in China in gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions, identified under the C-DM designation. It combines a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine with an electric motor. Together they deliver 510 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque—figures typical of a sports car for an family-oriented SUV. For now, the plug-in version is only available with two-wheel drive. All-wheel drive remains reserved for the gasoline versions, which feature 220 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading capacity.

There are two battery options to choose from, 26.61 kWh and 45.12 kWh. With these, the electric range ranges from 140 to 251 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is usually quite optimistic. Even after applying the typical reduction from the WLTP cycle, the larger battery will be more than sufficient to drive to and from work for several days in a row without turning on the gasoline engine. Chery does not specify the charging power, fuel consumption, or total range.

Large SUV size with good equipment

The Traveller 7 falls into the European D-SUV segment. It measures 4,827 mm in length, 2,006 mm in width, and 1,875 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. Externally, it features circular headlights connected by a light strip and a rectangular air intake, available in six colors.

Inside, there’s a 15.6-inch central screen and a 10.25-inch digital dashboard. The seats come with ventilation, heating, eight-point massage function, and electric adjustment in ten positions. It also includes a sound system with 23 speakers, double-layer acoustic glass, and the Falcon 500 driver assistance system based on the Horizon Journey 6M chip.

Prices of plug-in hybrids in China

The C-DM is available in three versions with different levels of equipment. The prices are truly competitive:

C-DM Pro: 19,877 euros

C-DM Max: 21,177 euros

C-DM Max+: 22,477 euros

What about in Spain?

For now, the Traveller 7 is a launch product exclusive to China, with no plans announced for Europe. If it does arrive, it will likely be available as a plug-in model, similar to other Chinese plug-in hybrid SUVs already on our roads. The OMODA 9 and JAECOO 7, also from Chery, are already following this path in Spain. Their prices here would be higher than in China, and it remains to be seen how many seats they offer, what the trunk size is, and what the charging capacity is.
