The Changan Deepal S05 no longer relies solely on electricity

The Changan Deepal S05 plug-in hybrid is now available for purchase in Portugal, and it was on display at the Porto Hybrid and Electric Car Show.
The Changan Deepal S05 initially entered the market as a 100% electric model, but it is no longer the only powertrain option. The Chinese manufacturer used the Hybrid and Electric Car Show (SAHE) to unveil the new plug-in hybrid variant, one of the brand’s latest innovations.
Called the Changan Deepal S05 Ultra-Hybrid, this version combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor powered by a 18.4 kWh battery. The result is a total combined power of 190 kW (252 hp) and an electric-only range of up to 100 kilometers.

Like any other plug-in hybrid, the S05 Ultra-Hybrid is designed to prioritize electric driving. But when the battery charge is depleted and the combustion engine needs to step in, it can function solely as a generator to recharge the battery, resulting in a combined range of up to 1060 km.
One of the highlights of the S05 Ultra-Hybrid, despite having a significantly smaller battery than its all-electric version, is its ability to be charged via direct current (DC) at powers of up to 55 kW, allowing only a 15-minute charge from 30% to 80%.
No less important, this Chinese SUV can act as a “giant power bank” thanks to the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature. This enables the use of energy stored in the battery to power external devices.
The plug-in hybrid version is available starting at 37,558 euros and is sold alongside the electric version.
What are the differences from the S05 electric?
Distinguishing the plug-in hybrid version from the electric one is not easy. Both measure 4,598 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, but the S05 Ultra-Hybrid offers less interior space since the internal combustion engine takes up the area where the electric version has a frunk.
Nevertheless, the model provides up to 492 liters of trunk space, which can increase to 1,310 liters with the seats folded down.

The Deepal S05 Ultra-Hybrid stands out with its sharp front design, headlights divided into two parts, and door handles integrated into the body. Inside, it eliminates a traditional dashboard, concentrating all vehicle information and functions on a single 15.4” screen located at the center of the console.
How much does it cost?
In the domestic market, the Changan Deepal S05 Ultra-Hybrid is available in two trims — Pro and Max — with prices starting at 37,558 euros.
