PRICES: Mercedes GLC Electric starting at 280,700 Polish zlotys for the GLC 250 version with a battery of ~90 (85) kWh and rear-wheel drive

Mercedes has announced prices for the Mercedes GLC Electric in versions with a battery capacity of ~90 (85) kWh, the same type used in the smaller Mercedes CLA EQ Tech. The rear-wheel-drive version, GLC 250 Electric, boasts 260 kW/354 hp of power and promises a range of 646 WLTP units, slightly less than the variant with a larger ~100 (94) kWh battery and all-wheel drive. There’s also the Mercedes GLC 300 4Matic Electric with a ~90 (85) kWh battery, priced starting at 299,900 złoty, offering a range of 613 WLTP units. Configurator HERE.

It’s all about those Digital Add-ons, which are services that 1/ will eventually be paid for, or 2/ might possibly be discontinued someday

The prices listed seem attractive compared to the diesel versions of the previous generation. The GLC 250 Electric costs from 280,700 złoty, while the previous GLC 200d 3Matic is available from 250,500 złoty. The older models are not offered with a single-wheel drive system, but the 120 kW/163 HP engine (+17 kW/23 HP from the electric motor) struggling to power a car of this size performs rather poorly. It’s no wonder the GLC 220d 4Matic earned the title of Bestseller – although it costs 270,100 złoty, just 10,600 złoty less than the new Mercedes GLC 250 Electric.

The diesel version is indeed slower, but it definitely has a better range (source).

The standard equipment of the Mercedes GLC 250 Electric includes a black body color, 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, heated and electric front seats, a comfortable suspension, non-adaptive LED headlights without matrix technology, an unlit grille, charging at up to 320 kW with a 10% to 80% charge time of 22 minutes, a black leatherette interior (exception: the steering wheel covered in Nappa leather), and an electric trunk lid, but without a convenient access feature.

There will be three independent screens in the cockpit, and navigation operates in real time, but it is a Digital Extra feature that requires activation on the customer’s account and also involves paying a subscription after three years. Map updates are not guaranteed. Another Digital Extra is the ability to preheat the cabin and set charging options, which is “provided” for two years from the time of vehicle delivery, with an option to extend it by six months. Yet another feature is route planning with charging stops (MB.Charge Public).

The manufacturer explicitly states that all services in this category are paid after a trial period and may be discontinued at some point. We can already imagine those articles from 2036, assuming the Electric Truck still existed by then…

Under another Digital Add-on, we can purchase access to an app store for 993 zł for 3 years (that’s 27.6 zł/month), along with streaming music and messaging options. We only opted for the Burmester 3D audio system (+5,750 zł; surprisingly, it didn’t require replacing the upholstery, steering wheel, or wheels), and MB.Drive Assist autopilot (+7,841 zł). But with the 360-degree cameras and parking assistant, we hesitated because it turned out to be another Digital Add-on as well. Theoretically, “it’s available for permanent use after the vehicle is delivered,” but the manufacturer clearly refers to “paid extension of access.”

Since the country’s charging infrastructure is modern, we decided not to purchase a 400 V charging converter (2,875 PLN). Tesla’s superchargers with low charging rates will no longer tempt us. Thanks to this simple decision, along with giving up the illuminated stars on the roof, a nicer interior, a pneumatic suspension with a steerable rear axle, and several other features, we were able to keep the price below 300,000 PLN:
