The BYD Yuan Up now comes in a 501 km version at a lower price. It’s the Chinese Atto 2 before export.

BYD unveiled the refreshed Yuan Up in China, which is the same model sold overseas as the Atto 2. The car starts at 74,800 yuan, with the new version featuring a larger battery offering a CLTC range of 501 km. For Europe, something else is more important: the Chinese manufacturer is currently refining a small SUV that occupies a tier below the Atto 3 in our market.

New battery, same body

The 2027 BYD Yuan Up is available in China in five versions, priced from 74,800 to 104,800 yuan, which is roughly equivalent to $11,000 to $15,500. The manufacturer also adds a temporary additional fee of 5,000 yuan, raising the price range to 69,800–99,800 yuan.

The biggest change is the new variant called “Excellent,” equipped with a 51.13 kWh battery and a claimed CLTC range of 501 km. Alongside it are two existing versions: one with a 32 kWh battery and a CLTC range of 301 km, and another with a 45.12 kWh battery and a CLTC range of 401 km.

You’re right—CLTC isn’t WLTP, let alone real-world driving conditions. On paper it looks very good, but European figures would be lower.

The price movement is also interesting. The base 301 km version retained its previous starting price, but the 401 km variant is now about 18,000 yuan cheaper, which is roughly $2,500 less compared to the current Yuan Up. That doesn’t seem bad.

The dimensions haven’t changed. The car is 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,675 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. It’s roughly the size of the Hyundai Kona.

Interior upgrades and more ADAS

Inside, BYD added a new two-spoke steering wheel, an electronic gear selector next to the steering column, a 12.8-inch central screen, and 8.8-inch LCD dashboards. All versions come equipped with the DiLink 100 Advanced Smart Cockpit system, which includes voice control, smartphone connectivity, and several interface themes.

The standard also includes a 360-degree camera system. Selected versions come with the God’s Eye C package, offering more advanced driver assistance features such as autopilot navigation on highways and remote parking. For now, this sounds like a Chinese-specific feature set, so the range of functions might change when exported to Europe.

The model itself has strong competition. According to data cited by Cleantechnica, the BYD Yuan Up/Atto 2 was the fifth best-selling electric vehicle in the world in the first half of 2026. Only the Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, BYD Song/Seal U, and Geely EX2 ranked higher. This is no longer a niche market.

For the Polish reader, the conclusion is simple: if BYD applies some of these changes to the European Atto 2, it could get tight for brands targeting customers looking for something smaller than the Atto 3, EX30, or Elroq. The only question is how much of the Chinese price and features will make it to the EU without any issues along the way.
