BYD and Iberdrola launch joint charging service in Spain

BYD is developing an all-in-one electric vehicle package for the Spanish market in partnership with energy provider Iberdrola. When purchasing an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid from this brand, customers now receive a bundle of incentives including a wall charger, a special electricity rate, and discounts for home and public charging.

Iberdrola and BYD are marketing this offer under the name “Plan Recarga Inteligente” and have established a strategic partnership in advance for this purpose. When purchasing a BYD model, a wall charger is included, and the installation cost is halved if customers arrange it through Iberdrola. Additionally, customers who choose Iberdrola’s “Plan Recarga Inteligente” tariff receive a discount on their electricity contract as well as benefits when charging at public stations.
Just at the beginning of the week, BYD also announced a similar offer in Germany, this time in collaboration with energy company E.ON. In the UK, the Chinese automaker has been relying on electricity provider Octopus Energy since the summer, where two-way charging is also promoted. This is not yet the case in Germany and Spain.
In Spain, the package includes a home charging station, a subsidized installation, as well as energy for home use and public charging. “The partnership aims to make electric mobility more accessible through a comprehensive offering that includes infrastructure, energy savings, and high user-friendliness,” the officials say.
Here are the key points of the offer:
- According to Iberdrola, customers pay half of the market price for installing the wallbox, which is said to result in savings of 969 euros.
- The “Recarga Inteligente” tariff is based on an energy price of 0.25 €/kWh including taxes.
Luis Buil, Director for Smart Solutions at Iberdrola España, commented: “Working with BYD […] allows us to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in Spain. This is the most efficient option and the only way to achieve decarbonization. Thanks to this agreement, BYD customers will have access to top-notch charging infrastructure, along with smart pricing plans that maximize savings at home, as well as a continuously expanding and reliable public charging network with over 12,000 active charging points. Our offering is designed to meet the actual needs of drivers in the simplest and most transparent way possible.”
Alberto de Aza, CEO of BYD Iberia, added, “At BYD, we view our leadership in electrification not only as a focus on our vehicles but also as a commitment to delivering a comprehensive customer experience. The partnership with Iberdrola España is a milestone in our strategy to eliminate uncertainties related to charging, whether at home or on the go.”
