BYD's Thailand team poses around a white Atto 3 at the Rayong plant beneath a banner celebrating 100,000 vehicles built in Thailand.

The milestone vehicle was a BYD Atto 3, the company's first model introduced in Thailand.

Thai nationals now account for 95% of the plant's workforce, while about 50% of procurement is sourced locally.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) has produced its 100,000th new energy vehicle (NEV) at its Thailand plant, about 26 months after the facility began operations.

The Chinese NEV giant announced the milestone on Wednesday, saying the vehicle rolled off the production line on September 21.

The milestone vehicle was a BYD Atto 3, known as the Yuan Plus in China. The compact battery-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) was the first model BYD introduced when it entered Thailand in 2022.

BYD said Thai nationals now account for 95% of the plant's workforce, while about 50% of procurement is sourced locally. A total of 5 models have received Made in Thailand (MiT) certification.

The share of Thai employees rose further from about 93% in July. BYD has created more than 5,000 jobs in the country.

Located in the WHA Industrial Estate in Rayong province, the facility is BYD's first wholly owned overseas passenger vehicle production base. It began operations in July 2024 with a designed annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

The plant produced its 10,000th vehicle in November 2024 and its 70,000th in November 2025, adding about 30,000 vehicles over the following 10 months as production gradually gathered pace.

Locally produced models include the BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal 5 DM-i, BYD Sealion 5 DM-i and BYD Sealion 6 DM-i.

Thailand is BYD's most important market in the Asia-Pacific region. Its cumulative deliveries in the country exceeded 130,000 vehicles in July, including imports.

The plant also serves as an export base. In August 2025, it made its first shipment to Europe, sending more than 900 BYD Dolphin vehicles to destinations including the UK, Germany and Belgium.

Overseas production is becoming increasingly critical to BYD as tariffs and trade barriers rise. The Thailand plant has become an export hub serving ASEAN and markets further afield.

BYD said it would continue to expand local manufacturing, develop talent and strengthen its supply chain.

BYD management raised this year's overseas sales guidance to 1.9–2.0 million vehicles as the previously increased target comes within reach.
