BYD reveals the name of the super sedan that challenges Rolls-Royce: it is the Yangwang Altior

BYD has released the first official images and a teaser video of its new luxury super sedan, also announcing its name: Yangwang Altior.

The sedan is 5.50 meters long and aims to directly compete with the Rolls-Royce Ghost in the luxury four-wheel drive segment.

Its live debut is scheduled in Dubai in the early days of November 2026, with several sources indicating November 5 as the likely date. The manufacturer has so far only confirmed the presentation in the United Arab Emirates at the beginning of the month. Abroad, the model will be called Altior, while in China it will be sold as Dingyao.

Debut in Dubai, name and meaning

The international name is not arbitrary. Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang’s sales division, explained that “Altior comes from Latin and means ‘higher.’” This choice reflects the project’s stated ambition, which was previously known by the internal code HU.

Regarding the design, BYD emphasizes a clear continuity. According to CarNewsChina, “the Altior model will follow the design language introduced by the brand’s first model, the SUV U8.” Images that have already surfaced show a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof, a laser radar that maps the environment around the car for assisted driving systems, and rear hinged doors that open against the wind.

The launch comes at a time of growth for the brand. From January to September 2026, Yangwang delivered 3,251 vehicles, a 38.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

BYD’s luxury brand is already making waves with another extreme project, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, aimed at achieving speeds of 500 km/h.

Size and Price

The Altior takes the lead over its British rival in terms of dimensions. Its wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear axles, which determines legroom for rear passengers) is 3,350 mm, about 100 mm longer than that of the standard Rolls-Royce Ghost.

The estimated price is around 2 million yuan, equivalent to approximately $300,000, or about 280,000 euros at current exchange rates. This price places the sedan in the ultra-luxury segment, alongside Rolls-Royce and Mercedes Maybach.

However, this is an estimate that circulated before the official launch. BYD has not yet confirmed the final price list.

The technical specifications of the powertrain remain unclear, as the Chinese manufacturer has not yet disclosed them. However, multiple sources suggest the Altior could be BYD’s first model to feature solid-state batteries—a technology that replaces the liquid inside cells with a solid material, offering higher energy density and faster charging. The company’s executives have set 2027 as the target year for the launch of the first production vehicle with this type of battery, but there are currently no official confirmations linking this project specifically to the Dingyao.

The same strategy of surpassing the performance figures of traditional rivals already drives other projects within the group, such as the record-breaking sedan built around the Blade Battery. The recent portfolio also includes the large electric SUV unveiled lately, capable of over 1,000 km on a single charge and charging in just 5 minutes.
