The BYD SHARK received five stars from Euro NCAP. It has 436 horsepower and a range of 90 kilometers on electric power.

The BYD SHARK DMO received the highest five-star rating from Euro NCAP in October 2026. This hybrid pickup achieved scores between 74% and 87% in the four assessment categories, with it set to enter broader European sales in the first half of 2027.

The rating was based on earlier tests conducted by the Australasian organization ANCAP, which Euro NCAP supplemented with its own investigations. The SHARK provided good protection for passengers in frontal and side collisions, but five stars do not mean a perfect score.

Safety assistance systems

87%

The highest score of 87 percent was achieved by the pick-up in terms of assist systems. The automatic emergency braking responded properly to other vehicles, cyclists, and motorcyclists. Euro NCAP also gave high marks to the lane-keeping assistant, speed control, and the feature that detects children left in the cabin.

This is the ninth BYD model to receive five stars from Euro NCAP since the brand’s European debut in 2022. Previously, models such as Dolphin Surf, Dolphin, Seal, Seal U, Seal U DM-i, Seal 6, and Sealion 7 have earned the highest rating. For this Chinese manufacturer, entering the pick-up segment does not start with making up for a weak crash test result.

Powerful engine and European debut in 2027

SHARK made its debut at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. It features a five-seater, dual-cab layout along with a Super Hybrid DMO system, which stands for Dual Mode Off-road. The front electric motor delivers 231 horsepower, while the rear one provides 204 horsepower. Together, they generate 436 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, enabling the pickup to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

The electric motors work in conjunction with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. According to BYD, the range using energy stored in the battery is up to 90 km, while with a fully charged battery and fuel tank, it increases to 675 km. These are the manufacturer’s figures, not the results of independent European fuel and energy consumption tests.

The Blade battery is integrated into the vehicle’s structure using Cell-to-Chassis technology. The vehicle also comes equipped with a V2L function for powering external devices, a 15.6-inch display, a transparent display panel, and a Dynaudio audio system.

Sales in the initially selected markets are set to begin within three months. A broader launch in Europe is planned for the first half of 2027. BYD has not yet announced the price or launch date for the SHARK in Poland, so these two details will determine whether this 436-horsepower pickup becomes something more than just a curiosity here.
