BYD Seal 07 second generation: 20 Devialet speakers and 875 km of CLTC range

BYD has released the first official photos of the interior of the second-generation Seal 07. The cockpit is named “Ocean Rhythm,” following prototype images that leaked on October 22. The launch comes at a bad time for the current model: its sales in China dropped 37.3% month-on-month in September, to 624 units.
Interior: goodbye to the crystal gear shifter
The round crystal gear selector is gone, replaced by an electronic knob located next to the steering column. This allows two angled inductive chargers, metal physical switches, and two cup holders to fit on the floating console. The driver gets a three-spoke steering wheel with a cutout at the bottom and digital gauges. There is also space in a recessed area of the dashboard for an HUD display.
Audio output to 20 Devialet speakers with laser-etched metal grilles in the doors. The front seats feature heating, ventilation, and pneumatic massage, while the rear has longer seats and contoured backs. It fits a wheelbase of 2960 mm.
Larger and with three powertrain options
The body is 5080 mm long, 1960 mm wide, and 1495 mm high. Compared to the current Seal 07 EV, this represents an increase of 85 mm in length, 50 mm in width, and 60 mm in wheelbase. Externally, it can be recognized by its wavy, split headlights, semi-hidden door handles, and full-width light bar at the rear. The electric version has a lidar on the roof, but according to DM-i regulatory documents, it no longer does. Details were also revealed by Zhang Zhuo, head of sales for Ocean under BYD.

The difference between CLTC and WLTP for the more powerful EV is over 150 km, so the European figures are the only ones worth trusting here. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid claims up to 245 km on electric power from a 38 kWh battery. That’s about 6.4 km per kWh, a figure we won’t see in real driving conditions.
Will the new Seal 07 improve sales, given that the biggest highlight of the old interior was the crystal gear knob, which it is now getting rid of? Let us know if you miss it.
