The facelifted BYD Seagull revealed its interior. In Poland, it is known as the Dolphin Surf with improved performance.

Photos of the interior of the updated BYD Seagull have leaked online, which is the car known in Poland as the BYD Dolphin Surf. The Chinese urban electric vehicle features a new central console, a single dashboard screen instead of a separate display in front of the driver, and an increased length of 4,205 mm with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
On paper, these changes are more significant than a simple tweak. However, some of the most important details, such as battery capacity and range, have not yet been revealed.
New interior, fewer screens in front of the driver
The biggest change inside the cabin is the new, angled two-level central console. It provides more space at the bottom, so BYD has turned it into a practical storage area for larger items, from tissue boxes to takeout food. Simple, but logical for such a vehicle.
At the top sits a large central screen. Physical buttons remain under the vents, so BYD didn’t go for full touch control of everything. Another decision doesn’t look good: the photos don’t show a separate gauge cluster in front of the driver. If it truly disappears, some information will have to be read from the screen in the center.
The steering wheel now has new, more angular buttons. The marine-themed interior color scheme from the current model is also retained, but red accents have been added to the sides of the seats.
The car has grown bigger, with a more powerful engine and thicker tires
The refreshed Seagull was already spotted in Chinese MIIT documents at the beginning of July. Now we know more about the car itself. Its body is 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,570 mm high, with the wheelbase increasing by 150 mm to 2,650 mm.
The curb weight has increased as well. It ranges from 1,180 to 1,255 kg depending on the version. All new approved models also come equipped with 205/60 R16 tires, which are significantly wider than the current 165 and 175 sizes. This suggests that BYD aims to make this vehicle slightly more mature than a cheap urban hatchback.
The powertrain is no longer just symbolic either. There is one engine at the front producing 95 kW, or 127 horsepower. This is 40 kW and 54 horsepower more than the most powerful current version in China. The top speed has increased to 150 km/h.
The battery will be lithium-iron-phosphate, supplied by Shaoxing FinDreams Battery, a BYD subsidiary. The capacity and range have not been disclosed yet. It is known, however, that the vehicle uses a 400 V architecture and does not support BYD Flash Charging. There will be no marketing gimmicks here.
Another matter of interest is this: the current base version of the Seagull, with a range of 305 km, uses only air-cooled batteries, which may affect charging speed and battery longevity in hot weather. It’s unclear whether BYD will retain this design choice to keep the entry price low. Hopefully not.
Sales figures also play a role here. According to China EV DataTracker, BYD delivered 8,879 Seagulls in China in July 2026. It is no longer the market leader. Once the best-selling car in China, it has been overtaken by the Geely EX2 and Leapmotor B03X.
That’s why the lift is more significant than just a new interior. There are also talks about adding a LiDAR, which would represent progress toward better ADAS features rather than just fresher plastics. In Poland, the most interesting question will be whether the BYD Dolphin Surf will remain a budget car after this upgrade or start moving away from its original price point. What do you think? Is the lack of a separate screen in front of the driver a cost-saving measure or a step backward?
