BYD will install 2 Flash Charging stations in Poland by the end of 2026. The first one is set to open in Gdańsk.

BYD plans to open at least two Flash Charging stations with a capacity of up to 1 MW in Poland by the end of 2026. The first is likely to be installed in November near the Denza showroom in Gdańsk, said Piotr Ziarkowski, the company’s spokesperson, to ISBnews.
This will be the first real test of China’s “megawatt charging” technology in our market. The charging column itself is impressive, but for now only compatible Denza models can use it at full capacity.
First Denza showrooms, then charging for everyone
BYD intends to place the first Flash Charging stations near the premium Denza showrooms. Eventually, they are meant to be accessible to the public, allowing cars from other manufacturers to connect as well.
This doesn’t mean that every electrician will suddenly be able to charge at 1 MW. The maximum charging power depends on the vehicle, battery architecture, installation voltage, cell temperature, and the charger itself. A typical 400-volt car will only utilize a portion of the capabilities offered by such a charging station, and even many new 800 V models won’t reach four-digit kW values.
Flash Charging is currently a technology designed for Denza vehicles. BYD is also changing its way of communicating: instead of showing the power rating, it indicates the charging time. According to the manufacturer, the battery can be charged from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes, and from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes during winter.
These numbers should be read as results for a specific car, battery, and conditions. Charging from 10 to 70 percent is much easier for the battery than reaching 97 percent, where power usually drops significantly. In this case, BYD claims that even the final stage will remain very fast. This will need to be verified at a charging station in Poland, preferably in winter.
BYD aims for 3,000 stations in the European Union
By the end of 2026, BYD plans to launch 6,000 Flash Charging stations outside of China. By the end of 2027, around 3,000 of these are expected to be in the European Union alone.
The scale in China is even larger. At the turn of August and September 2026, there were approximately 10,000 Flash Charging stations in operation there, with a target of 20,000 stations for the whole year. Poland is thus starting with just two stations, while the Chinese market is already much further along.
Gdańsk station won’t solve the problem of charging on the road, but it will show whether BYD can bring its promise of 5-minute charging from Chinese materials to the European power grid. Do you see any sense in megawatt chargers near Denza showrooms, or should they be placed directly along major routes?
