This is according to a report by the British outlet _Routeone_. Quoting BYD manager Frank Thorpe. According to the report, the battery-electric coach is not a derivative of an existing BYD long-distance bus available in other markets. Thorpe emphasises that the new coach has been developed specifically for the UK. However, technical specifications are not yet known.

The senior manager only adds that the vehicle will feature a range of innovative safety features in its design. He states: “It is an exciting time for BYD UK; not only because our parent company is investing in the coach and bus industry here, with resources, products and people, but also our ability to receive technical developments from BYD first-hand.”

As motivation for expanding into the coach sector, Thorpe points to the success of his employer with battery-electric buses in the double-decker and single-decker segments in the UK. BYD is said to have already delivered or have orders for more than 1,000 electric buses in the UK. The powertrain (150 kW×2) used in the city and intercity buses will, according to the portal report, also power the future coach, although the battery capacity for the latter is still unknown.

Currently available in the UK are BYD solo buses in lengths of 11.8 m, 10.8 m, 10.4 m and 9.9 m. Also in the range: the double-decker BD11, available in lengths of 10.6 m or 10.9 m and with a maximum battery capacity of 532 kWh on board.
