BYD launches the ETT 44 in Europe, an electric truck with a range of 600 km, a 20-minute charging time, and a warranty of 1.2 million km.

Although BYD is best known for its automobiles, it is also present in the heavy transportation sector. The company’s electric buses are already available in numerous cities around the world; in addition, it manufactures electric trucks as well, a niche that is rapidly becoming electrified thanks to the efforts of Chinese and European players.

Taking advantage of its presence at the IAA Transportation in Hannover, BYD unveiled its heavy-duty electric truck ETT 44, which is set to become one of the key models in its European commercial vehicle lineup. With a range of 600 km and a charging capacity of over 1.5 MW (1,500 kW), it represents one of the most advanced solutions in this field.

The BYD ETT 44 is equipped with a massive battery with a capacity of 651 kWh. As expected, it features a Blade-type LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery, a chemistry known for its affordability and long lifespan. The battery comes with a 10-year or 1.2 million kilometer warranty, reflecting BYD’s confidence in its durability.

Using a CCS2 connector (the standard for electric cars in Europe), it can be charged at 420 kW, reaching 80% charge from 20% in about 60 minutes. However, with an MCS connector (the standard for heavy vehicles capable of megawatt-level charging), it can exceed 1,500 kW. In this case, it takes just 20 minutes to reach the same charge level, which is equivalent to nearly 400 kilometers of range.

BYD also aims to dominate the electric truck market

"We have already implemented fast charging technology called Flash in passenger vehicles. Today, we are bringing this technology to commercial vehicles, starting with our trucks. With a charging power of 1.5 megawatts, they can go from 20% to 80% charged in about 20 minutes, offering a range of up to 400 km. Less charging time. More time on the road," says Stella Li, BYD’s executive vice president.

"Greater efficiency for every vehicle. From batteries and solar energy to energy storage, fast charging, and commercial vehicles. We offer a comprehensive solution for sustainable commercial transportation. One company. One ecosystem. A complete energy solution."

This 4x2 tractor truck has a continuous power output of 743 HP, though it can reach a peak of 1,000 HP. The maximum gross weight is 44 tons. The high-roof cab features a resting area; for infotainment, the truck is equipped with a 12.8-inch central screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
