BYD achieves over 300,000 BEV sales in a single month for the first time

BYD sold more than 300,000 pure electric vehicles in a single month for the first time in October 2026. Overall, the Chinese manufacturer delivered over 490,000 vehicles worldwide, including plug-in hybrids. This allowed BYD to increase its sales by around 11% compared to October 2025.

Specifically, the Chinese manufacturer sold 305,743 all-electric vehicles, representing a 37.4 percent increase compared to the previous month. BYD also saw growth compared to September, with total sales rising by 5.74 percent and sales of pure electric vehicles increasing by 11.9 percent. This marked the third consecutive time BEVs set a new monthly record. This trend underscores that growth within the BYD group is increasingly shifting toward all-electric powertrains.
In contrast, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) performed less well. BYD sold 177,382 units of these in October, a 17.2 percent decline from the previous year. The company had already recorded a slight decrease in this vehicle category in September.
Important for clarity: The unit sales figures include all four brands of the conglomerate. Although they are shown individually in an infographic, they are not separated by drive type. The results show that the core brand BYD sold 423,843 units, the Fangchengbao brand focused on high-performance off-road SUVs sold 43,872 vehicles, the premium Denza brand, now available in Europe as well, sold 15,152 cars, and the hypercar brand Yangwang sold 258 units.
BYD Increases Exports by 103 Percent
A key driver of growth remains overseas sales. In October, BYD exported a total of 170,194 vehicles, noting that BYD only produces so-called New Energy Vehicles (NEV), namely pure electric cars and plug-in hybrids. This represents a 102.8 percent increase compared to the same month last year. However, exports declined by 5.8 percent compared to September. Approximately 35 percent of total October sales came from exports.
In contrast, BYD sold 319,974 vehicles in its domestic Chinese market. This represented a 10.6 percent decrease compared to October 2025. However, compared to September 2026, the manufacturer was able to increase its domestic sales by 13.1 percent. This continues to show a clear shift in the drivers of growth: while BYD faces intense competition and weaker demand in China, its international business is gaining increasing importance. This is also evident in the table below, which shows the trends over the past 24 months regarding BYD’s domestic and overseas sales in China.

Yearly total still below the previous year’s level
Despite recent sales increases, BYD’s overall performance for 2026 remains slightly below last year’s level. From January to October, the company delivered a total of 3,621,744 new energy vehicles, representing a 2.16 percent decline compared to the first ten months of the previous year. After nine months, the decline had been 3.9 percent.
The situation for fully electric passenger cars is better: BYD has sold 1,935,700 units so far this year, marking a 5.86 percent increase. In contrast, plug-in hybrids account for 1,625,969 vehicles, which is 11.02 percent lower than last year’s figure.
Just as in October alone, export sales have also shown strong growth since the beginning of the year. From January to October, BYD exported a total of 1,513,154 vehicles with alternative powertrains, representing a 93.75 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This growing internationalization is likely to play a key role in helping BYD offset its declining sales in its home market in China.
