BYD brings the ETT 44 electric truck to Europe
BYD is entering the European market for heavy electric trucks with the ETT 44. This 44-ton tractor is equipped with a 651-kWh battery and is said to offer a range of nearly 600 kilometers along with a charging capacity of over 1.5 MW, according to the manufacturer.

BYD introduced the ETT 44 for the European market at the IAA Transportation in Hannover. This battery-electric 4×2 tractor is designed for a total trailer weight of up to 44 tons and will serve as the flagship of the Chinese manufacturer’s European commercial vehicle lineup in the future.
The ETT 44 is equipped with a 651 kWh Blade Battery using LFP cell chemistry. BYD claims a range of up to 372 miles, or nearly 600 kilometers. However, the range is still listed as “TBC” in the technical specifications. BYD also does not provide details on the conditions under which this range is achieved. The ETT 44 can be charged via CCS2 at up to 420 kW, allowing the charge from 20% to 80% to take no more than 60 minutes. Through MCS, BYD specifies a charging power of over 1.5 MW and a maximum time of 20 minutes for the same charge level, enabling the addition of nearly 400 kilometers of range according to the manufacturer.
The standard driving power is 743 HP, with BYD claiming up to 1,000 HP at peak performance. The curb weight of the tractor unit ranges from 10.95 to 11.14 tons depending on the model. BYD provides a ten-year warranty or 1.2 million kilometers of coverage for the Blade Battery.
BYD expands its truck lineup in Europe
In addition to the ETT 44, BYD is showcasing new rigid 4×2 and 6×2 trucks in Hannover, including a 26-ton model with interchangeable payloads and a variant equipped with a hook lift. This is intended to ensure that BYD’s European commercial vehicle portfolio covers a range from 3.5 to 44 tons in the future. The company also plans to offer charging infrastructure, energy storage solutions, energy management systems, and financing options.
With the ETT 44, BYD is entering a increasingly competitive European market. Daimler Truck, MAN, and Volvo are also presenting their latest electric trucks at the IAA. For example, Volvo claims that its new FH Aero Electric can achieve a range of up to 700 kilometers, though such manufacturer-provided figures are not directly comparable due to differences in operating and testing conditions.
At the same time, competition from China is increasing: Companies such as Sany, Sinotruk, and Skyworth are showcasing heavy electric trucks in Hannover and are already working to establish a presence in the European market.
