Bundesnetzagentur: Now 212,064 public charging stations in Germany

The public charging network for electric vehicles in Germany now includes 212,064 charging stations registered with the Bundesnetzagentur. As of August 1, 2026, there were 156,399 standard charging stations with a capacity of up to 22 kW and 55,665 faster charging stations. The total installed charging capacity available simultaneously amounts to 9.22 gigawatts according to the agency. These figures also include reports from applications that have not yet been finalized.
It includes publicly accessible charging points whose operators must register their infrastructure with the Federal Network Agency in accordance with the Charging Stations Regulation. Nevertheless, the registry does not cover the entire charging infrastructure in Germany: the agency explicitly states that the Charging Stations Regulation does not allow for complete coverage, meaning the actual number of publicly accessible charging facilities is higher. Private charging points in residential buildings or on non-public company premises are also not included in these statistics.
Apart from the sheer number of charging ports, the available charging power becomes increasingly important for evaluating infrastructure. The 55,665 registered fast charging stations with a power output of over 22 kW allow for shorter waiting times compared to conventional AC charging stations, though the actual charging power achievable depends on the charging station, the electric vehicle, and other technical factors.
At the normal charging levels, the power class of over 15 to 22 kW remains dominant, with the Bundesnetzagentur counting 114,589 charging points in this category. There are 38,899 charging points in the class of over 3.7 to 15 kW. The class up to 3.7 kW is represented by 2,911 charging points. Charging points with over 299 kW total 19,566 units, while the class of over 149 to 299 kW has 21,277 charging points. There are 4,469 charging points in the range of over 59 to 149 kW. The class of over 49 to 59 kW accounts for 8,583 charging points, and the class of over 22 to 49 kW has 1,770.
In terms of federal states, North Rhine-Westphalia still leads, with 41,646 publicly accessible charging points reported as of August 1. Followed by Bavaria with 40,421 and Baden-Württemberg with 35,791 charging points.
As of August 1, the Bundesnetzagentur has counted 12,914 operators of publicly accessible charging stations. EnBW mobility+ remains far ahead in terms of the number of charging points: it was previously assigned 12,464 charging points. Following are E.On Drive with 4,942, Tesla with 3,951, EWE Go with 3,595, and BP, which includes Aral, with 3,149 charging points.
