British importer Skywell ceases operations, leaving buyers in trouble. A similar fate awaits weak brands in Poland

Innovation Automotive, the British importer of Skywell and DFSK vehicles, is ceasing operations. Buyers are left with cars that lose their warranty, may lack spare parts, and whose software could stop working overnight. Similar fates might await such small brands in Poland if local importers decide this business model no longer suits them. And no written agreements will then ensure access to a working repair shop.
Purchasing a car from an obscure brand carries risks
According to the British website Autocar, Innovation Automotive decided to cease operations due to the need to maintain high levels of investment in order to compete in the market. In 2024, the company managed to sell 6 cars, 31 vehicles in 2025, 26 cars from January to the end of May 2026, and as many as 64 units in June of this year—likely at discounted prices to minimize losses. This is the first warning sign for enthusiasts of such inventions: offers that are too good to be true are usually a trap.

Although some British commentators claiming to be unfamiliar with such cars, the company might have presented itself quite well to those who fell for it: imported vehicles were sold at as many as 16 dealerships across the United Kingdom, and the financing and warranty terms were favorable. The owner is not going bankrupt; he intends to continue operating in the Middle East, only ending his import and vehicle service business in the islands. He also hopes to sell this business unit to another interested party.

DFSK EC35. Under the DFSK brand (Seres Auto (Hubei), formerly Dongfeng Sokon), delivery vehicles were sold in the United Kingdom, although DFSK also offers passenger cars.
As Autocar has learned, there is a fairly extensive range of spare parts available for Skywell models. The situation is worse with DFSK, as the warranty for the EC35 van “will no longer be available,” although former employees of Innovation Automotive are trying to fill this gap. “Former” because everyone was laid off on June 30. The manufacturer itself, Skyworth, is interested in staying in the United Kingdom and is actively seeking a new partner. However, it clearly does not want to take financial risks and maintain its network.
