Bpost goes electric: Belgian Post reports 4,165 electric delivery vans

The Belgian national postal service, Bpost, currently operates 4,165 electric delivery vans, accounting for 42 percent of its total delivery vehicle fleet. According to the company, 1,100 new electric vans have been ordered for this year alone and most of them have already been integrated into service.

Belgian Post is accelerating the electrification of its delivery fleet. The current fleet of 4,165 electric vans represents a fourfold increase compared to just three years ago: in 2023, Bpost had around 1,000 electric vans, before reaching 2,000 by the summer of 2024 and surpassing 3,000 by the summer/fall of 2025. The procurement pace “corresponds to an increase of about 1,000 electric vans per year,” according to the officials.
In 2026 as well, Bpost will increase the number of its electric delivery vehicles by roughly this amount: Out of the nearly 1,100 electric vans newly ordered for this year, 900 have already been put into use, according to the company. The remaining 200 from this order are set to be added by year’s end. Bpost obtains many of these vehicles from Stellantis. For example, the images below show electric delivery vehicles from the Citroën brand. Meanwhile, there are currently around 3,300 charging points available at Bpost locations across Belgium.
According to the company, these electric transporters will replace delivery vans with internal combustion engines that have reached the end of their useful life. Initially, they are set to be used alongside conventional transporters during the current peak delivery period in November and December, before the internal combustion engine vehicles are phased out. Bpost emphasizes that “in more than 150 postal code areas, deliveries — for both letters and packages — are now being carried out without any direct emissions.” This represents an important step toward the company’s goal of replacing 85 percent of its fleet used for the “last mile” with zero-CO2-emission vehicles by the end of the decade.

Rik Vandenberghe, National Fleet & Equipment Manager at Bpost, commented: “Updating our fleet is part of a broader transformation of our logistics network. In just three years, we have increased the number of our electric trucks from around 1,000 to over 4,000. With these vehicles, along with our electric bikes, bike trailers, and electric trucks, we are gradually adapting our operations to meet the demands of tomorrow while still ensuring reliable service across Belgium.”
Vandenberghes statement makes it clear that electrification at Bpost is not limited to delivery vehicles. The expanded electric fleet currently includes 3,013 electric bicycles, 556 electric bike trailers, and two electric trucks.
