Charging station bonus: funds exhausted with 16,000 requests

Charging station bonus: funds exhausted with 16,000 requests

Bonus for charging stations: funds exhausted for 2026. In just over a month, 16,000 applications were submitted to Invitalia, enough to deplete the 15 million euro budget. This is a clear indication of how much this subsidy was needed and anticipated by electric vehicle owners. In fact, the numbers could be even higher. We have received many emails from readers who missed out on the bonus. After the announcement in January 2026, many people purchased and installed charging stations without checking the details of the scheme, making their purchases before June 26, the date when such installations became eligible for the subsidy. All these applications were rejected, even though the investments were made in anticipation of the incentive. The hope is that Minister Urso, despite the negative response from the ministry, may consider revising the policy.

A deadline extension or a recovery measure for those who missed it.

Over 16,000 applications, office closed

The Ministry of Business celebrates the success of the initiative: “Great success for the Home Charging Stations Bonus: since the office opened on September 22, over 16,000 applications have been submitted, confirming citizens’ strong interest in a measure that, as part of support for the automotive sector, accompanies the evolution of mobility and promotes the spread of electric charging infrastructure.”

An important result, but somewhat predictable. This was already seen with the surge in demand for the Ecobonus, which exhausted available resources within just a few dozen minutes, and more recently with the call for applications for commercial vehicles, where resources were also depleted in a short time.

Signals that confirm the strong performance of the electric vehicle market and high demand for incentives related to the transition. “The applications received currently cover the value of the resources available for 2026, so the application process was closed starting at 12 p.m. today, October 27.”

No need to panic, however, for those who were unable to submit the application. The funds are not completely exhausted: the program has a total allocation of 68 million up to 2030. There will therefore be room for new application periods and additional opportunities to receive the subsidy.

Who bought in 2026 and hasn’t completed installation? What should they do?

"If it is purchased after June 26, 2026, but installed in 2027, the 2027 subsidy can be requested." This was the response we received from Invitalia, so if work is already underway, it’s better to pause and close the application in 2027. For clarity, we also include this excerpt from our request to Invitalia: "If it is installed in 2026, the application can be submitted this year; the deadline for submitting applications is January 31, 2027, but it cannot be requested in 2027, as the eligibility depends on the year of installation."

Bonus for charging stations: doubts about dates and statements

And who has already signed the DiCo, the compliance document, today? Fill out the application by 12 o’clock. We cannot rule out the possibility that someone might find out later about the closure of the application window with their DiCo already finalized in 2026.

We take this opportunity to address reader Francesco del Grosso, who wrote to us: “I want to wait until 2027 to submit the application, but I have some doubts. Could you kindly give me some advice? When can I purchase and install the column next year? At the beginning of the year or do I need to wait for a deadline, like this year? I am installing a photovoltaic system with battery storage, and the main components are Weco, so I would like to install a Weco unit as well—it fits within the new regulations that take effect in January 2027.” Since applications are processed in chronological order, it’s advisable to proceed with the work so you’re ready to submit your application, but be mindful of the deadline in 2027. Regardless of any deadlines, the work must be completed by 2027.

For those who submitted an application, view your own request

And who filled out the application? Here are the guidelines. “Applications will be processed in the order they were submitted. Applicants can check the status of their request by accessing the dedicated platform’s private area. If resources become available again, any reopening of the application process for 2026 will be announced via a special notice.”

The subsidy covers 80 percent of the costs incurred for purchasing and installing charging infrastructure such as chargers and wall boxes, up to a maximum of 1,500 euros per individual and 8,000 euros for installations in common areas of apartment buildings.
