Bochum: Graf Transporte opens truck loading yard with MCS loaders

In Bochum, the first megawatt-class truck charging park in the Ruhr region has opened. At the site of Bochum’s Graf Transporte logistics company, electric trucks can charge at six publicly accessible charging points, two of which have megawatt-level capacity. The technology partner is the Cologne-based startup Nanuq.

In Germany, the next two megawatt chargers for electric trucks are now available: Charging infrastructure specialist Nanuq announced the opening of a new truck charging park in Bochum, which offers two MCS connections among its six charging points. The location is at the Spedition Graf Transporte facility at Arnoldschacht 17 in Bochum. Graf Transporte uses these chargers primarily for its own electric fleet, but they are explicitly also open to the public.

According to the operators, the charging park has a connection capacity of two megawatts, which is dynamically distributed among all charging points. “This way, each vehicle uses the available capacity at that moment, ensuring optimal utilization of the grid connection,” they say.

Patrick Post, fleet manager and legal representative of Graf Transporte, commented: “Our goal is clearly to make our fleet carbon neutral, using both LNG and electric mobility, with the ultimate aim of being completely carbon neutral by 2027.” Graf Transporte GmbH is thus among the pioneers in Germany. It is a family-owned, internationally operating logistics company that currently employs around 150 staff members and maintains a fleet of about 100 trucks.

Fabrice Kathmann, CEO and co-founder of Nanuq GmbH, says, “It was very important for us to combine CCS and MCS. While most trucks still don’t have an MCS connection today, that will change, and we want to set up the charging network in a way that prepares it for the future. Energy management and scalable infrastructure help reduce our costs related to grid fees and electricity prices. And as demand increases, we can add more charging points.”

Nanuq is a GmbH founded in 2024 with its headquarters in Cologne. The company aims to establish itself primarily as a partner for logistics companies in the transition to electric vehicles. With this goal in mind, Nanuq plans, builds, and operates charging infrastructure for electric trucks equipped with its own charging and energy management systems. Optionally, Nanuq also handles the financing of the energy infrastructure.
