BMW is accelerating the pre-sale of the BMW i3. Orders can be placed starting today, Thursday, June 18.

BMW will begin accepting orders for the new BMW i3 today, according to the German weekly Automobilwoche. The first version to be sold will be the special “1st Edition” edition, likely at a premium price, as the manufacturer recently admitted its financial results are worse than expected. Production of the car will start in August, with deliveries to Poland expected in the final quarter of 2026.

BMW i3 could be a hit

Let’s start with the numbers: reportedly, 50,000 orders have been placed for the BMW iX3 within just a few months of its launch. Within two months of delivery starting (March-April 2026), customers received 10,000 units of the car alone in Europe. These figures are interesting because production began at the end of last year, with the target maximum output for the assembly lines in Debrecen, Hungary, set at 150,000 BMW iX3 units per year, or an average of 12,500 units per month. Yet by the end of 2025, the manufacturer claimed to have sold out “the entire European allocation for 2026.”

10,000 units in two months equals 50,000 units per year, which does not align with the factory’s claimed production capacity. Therefore, we can assume that despite the promised manufacturing capacity of the plant, the manufacturer planned from the start to supply Europe with around 50,000 BMW iX3 units. The rest will likely go to the American market.

Why all these calculations? It is said that interest in the BMW i3 after its March launch has “surpassed the positive reception of the BMW iX3” in both Europe and China. BMW expects this model to “bring new life to the sedan segment,” which is why it wants to start pre-sales today and begin production as previously announced, at the onset of autumn. The car has been presented so far in only one version, the BMW i3 50 xDrive, with a battery capacity of ~114 (108.7) kWh, a range of around 900 WLTP units, and two engines with a maximum power of 345 kW/469 hp.

The start of sales means we will learn the prices of the BMW i3, at least for the special edition. The expected values are similar to those of the BMW iX3, possibly starting slightly below 300,000 złoty.
