BMW iX3 is cheaper due to a smaller battery. The ~88 (82.6) kWh version starts at 275,000 złoty.

BMW has introduced the BMW iX3 with a smaller battery, reduced range, and single-wheel drive. The prices of the BMW iX3 40 start at 275,000 złoty, which is 40,000 złoty less than the iX3 50 xDrive version. Based on charging speeds, the smaller battery pack uses a reduced number of cells but accelerates proportionally to the identical versions, so the charging time from 10% to 80% remains the same: 21 minutes.

The cheaper BMW iX3 40 still offers decent range

The useful battery capacity is 82.6 kWh, with BMW not providing the total capacity figure. It does state that the WLTP range of the BMW iX3 40 is between 566 and 637 miles. This second figure can be compared to recent launches — the maximum range of the Skoda Peaq (also a D-SUV segment) in its rear-wheel-drive version is 642 miles, but with a battery capacity of 91 (86) kWh. Therefore, the BMW iX3 must be better optimized than its Volkswagen Group competitor. It is also more advanced technologically.

Thanks to its 800 V architecture (likely around 500-600 V in reality), the BMW iX3 40 can reach a maximum charging rate of 300 kW at a charger (iX3 50 = 400 kW), allowing it to recharge 70 percent of its battery in 21 minutes, as mentioned earlier. The 235 kW/320 hp engine mounted on the rear axle enables it to reach 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. As part of the standard equipment, we get items such as 20-inch wheels for optimal range, a display in the lower part of the windshield, gray (two-tone) fabric upholstery with black accents on the cabin, armrests, and dashboard. This is the only version that lacks ambient lighting.

The basic equipment also includes autopilot, a level 2 autonomous driving system (Assist Systems Plus), which maintains speed, following distance, and lane position, and can also adjust to speed limits. However, the standard version does not come with grille lighting, a heated steering wheel (+1,600 zł), tinted rear windows (+2,900 zł), paid digital services with data transmission (+2,400 zł), a head-up display (HUD), a 3-zone climate control system, or a Harman Kardon audio system.

The last three items as part of the Innovation Package cost an additional 9,300 złoty. We can also purchase 360-degree cameras with parking assistance (+2,700 zł), along with the option to drive in and out of a parking space via a mobile app (+4,200 zł). Even with careful equipment additions, the cost will exceed that of a BMW iX3 50 xDrive with a larger battery and significantly better range, and... then everything might start over again. Note from Elektrowozu’s editorial team: While reviewing the specifications of the Skoda Peaq, we noticed that Skoda uses the battery capacity notation method we developed in our editorial team, namely total capacity (usable capacity), such as 91 (86) kWh.
