BMW has delivered over 2 million electric cars worldwide.
Since the launch of the compact i3 at the end of 2013, and thanks to the advancements brought by the Neue Klasse series, BMW Group has delivered over two million electric vehicles to its customers as of August 2026.
BMW i5 M60 xDrive
Produced at BMW’s factory in Dingolfing and delivered to a customer in Spain, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive is officially recognized as the group’s two-millionth electric vehicle delivered worldwide. It serves as a meaningful symbol, as enthusiasts will recognize from its name that it represents the most powerful version of this popular electric sedan.
Its all-wheel-drive architecture is capable of delivering 442 kW (601 hp) of power and a maximum torque of 795 Nm. Thanks to this powerful engine, this highly dynamic electric vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 230 km/h.
Equipped with a battery offering 81.2 kWh of usable energy, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive promises a range of up to 539 km in the WLTP mixed cycle. It features a wheelbase of 3 meters and a total length of 5.06 meters. If the 490-liter trunk space isn’t sufficient for passengers, it’s possible to store 75 kg on the roof, 80 kg on the tow bar, or pull a trailer with a weight of up to two tons.
Acceleration
Including rechargeable hybrids, BMW Group has delivered approximately 3.5 million electric vehicles to its customers since the 2013 i3 city car. August 2026 also marks the launch at BMW’s Munich plant of production for the new sedan that carries the i3 name again.
This “second model in the Neue Klasse has already generated strong interest since pre-orders opened ahead of its commercial launch,” said Jochen Goller, head of Customer, Brands, and Sales at BMW AG.
The German brand’s history with electric vehicles dates back to 1972, with two units of the small 1602 Electric sedan used during the Munich Olympics.
In the first half of 2026, 28% of BMW Group’s sales in Europe came from electric models. With 81,445 units sold, the growth in electric vehicles was 38% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year. The enthusiasm for the brand’s new electric vehicle lineup suggests further record-breaking sales ahead.
