In short:

Bentley unveiled the Torcal model

This is the first car in the brand’s history from Crewe with a fully electric drive

The five-meter-long SUV is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 113 kWh

Range? Up to 600 kilometers and 888 horsepower

The base version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, while the S version needs 2.9 seconds.

Bentley Torcal is the fourth model line

Torcal opens a new chapter in Bentley’s history. It is the first model in the brand with a fully electric drive and also the fourth model line in the manufacturer’s lineup. The car was designed, developed, and will be produced in Crewe, United Kingdom.

The new model features an SUV body style, but its proportions are more compact than those of the Bentayga. The Torcal is 5 meters long and is the shortest four-door Bentley in the current lineup. It has a trunk capacity of 460 liters, with an additional 90 liters of storage space under the front hood.

Stylistically, the car builds upon the concepts shown earlier in the EXP 15. It features a illuminated grille with diamond motifs at the front, as well as prominently shaped wheels and a cabin that narrows toward the rear. The Torcal is also the first production Bentley to feature the brand’s new logo.

Two Engines and Up to 888 HP

The Torcal uses two synchronous electric motors with permanent magnets—one at each axle. An open differential is used at the front, while the rear features a locking mechanism that employs multi-plate clutches on both half-axles.

Two versions will be available at launch.

The maximum performance figures of the Torcala S are achieved with Launch Control activated. The base model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, while the S version does it in 2.9 seconds.

1350 Nm represents the highest torque ever recorded in a production Bentley. However, the manufacturer chose not to pursue further acceleration records and limited the performance to what it considered better suited to the car’s character.

113 kWh battery and 600 km range

The energy is stored in a battery composed of 192 pouch-type lithium-ion cells. Its usable capacity is 113 kWh, and the system operates at a nominal voltage of 800 V. Bentley offers a 10-year warranty or 160,934 km coverage on the battery.

The maximum declared range is 600 km WLTP. The DC charging capacity reaches 400 kW. Bentley states that charging from 10% to 80% can take 16 minutes. Meanwhile, the range can be increased by 161 km in just seven minutes.

Active suspension without traditional stabilizers

The Torcal features the most advanced chassis ever used by Bentley. For the first time, the brand employs fully active suspension with adaptive twin-chamber dampers.

Each wheel can be controlled independently, and the system actively counteracts body roll. As a result, traditional anti-roll bars are not required.

A flexible rear axle is also standard. The rear wheels can rotate up to 5 degrees, limiting the turning radius to 11.1 meters.

The braking system in the standard version uses steel discs 420 mm in diameter at the front and 370 mm at the rear. Ceramic CSiC brakes with 440 mm discs at the front and 410 mm discs at the rear are available as an option.

21 or 22 inches and two styling variants

The base Torcal comes standard with 21-inch wheels. The Torcal S features 22-inch rims, with three additional wheel design options available in this size. Summer, winter, and all-weather tires are offered.

The S version also features black body elements, darkened rear lights, a different diffuser, fenders, front bumper details, and red brake calipers. Inside, there are sports pedals and a Piano Black finish among other features.

Bentley retained physical buttons

The interior was redesigned from scratch, but the manufacturer didn’t completely abandon classic control elements. Physical buttons remain on the center console and steering wheel, while the screens use OLED technology.

The front seats standardly come with 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation, adjustable armrests, and massage functions. The optional Wellness Seat package extends the massage function to the seat as well. For the first time in a Bentley, the rear sofa features electric folding.

The car also features a driver facial recognition system. Once identified, settings for the seats, steering wheel, and assist systems are automatically loaded. The phone can serve as a digital key, while navigation information and ADAS alerts can be displayed on the expanded head-up display.

25 sensors and cameras

Torcal uses a total of 25 radars, sensors, and cameras to support driver assistance and parking systems.

The car can remember a section of a narrow road it has traveled and automatically reverse to a previously identified spot if an obstacle appears. There are also systems available to assist with driving with a trailer, parallel parking, and entering a garage.

The four doors have electric controls and can open and close on their own. The driver can close their door by pressing the brake pedal, while other passengers can do so by fastening their seat belts.

Musicians recorded the sound of the electric drive

Bentley did not attempt to digitally replicate the sound of a combustion engine. The sound of the Torcal drive was created using real instruments, including percussion, cello, and bass guitar.

The reference point was the rhythm of Bentley’s classic 6.75-liter V8 engine. The volume depends on speed and torque demand, increasing in Sport mode, but it can be completely turned off.

Even the sounds of the interface were recorded analogically. The turn signals use the sound of a hammer hitting leather, while the screen and voice assistant signals are based on the sound of a crystal glass.

New materials inside

Torcal also introduces new finishing materials. Bentley has developed, among others, a certified fabric made from 100% Merino wool in collaboration with the British company Fox Brothers.

The optional Ombré Walnut finish consists of up to 1,000 layers of carefully selected walnut wood and paper scraps, which are pressed and then cut into layers less than 1 mm thick. Sunburst Aluminium, brushed aluminum, is also available as an option.

The palette includes 15 leather colors, 15 corresponding Dinamica fabric colors, five variants of Merino wool, six types of wood veneer, as well as additional technical finishes.

The electric version does not replace Bentley’s combustion engines

Torcal does not mean an immediate end to Bentley’s internal combustion and hybrid models. The manufacturer positions it as an additional model line that complements Bentley’s current lineup with a fully electric vehicle. We’re waiting to see the prices, but... high prices are likely. This should not hinder Torcal’s success.
