Bentley Torcal: affordable British luxury SUV with 653 kW and a range of 600 km

The Bentley Torcal SUV is the first electric vehicle from the renowned Bentley brand. It is also only the third SUV produced by Bentley, following the Dominator and the Bentayga. The Torcal is just under five meters long, has a maximum power output of 653 kW, and an range of 600 kilometers. Thanks to the 0%-BPM tax rate, the Torcal is likely to be a relatively affordable option by Bentley standards.

The Bentley Torcal is largely based on the Porsche Cayenne Electric. Its platform, technology, and even the chassis hardware are identical.

Design

The Bentley Torcal introduces a completely new design language. The traditional dual headlights have been replaced by a setup featuring LED strips for daytime running lights, with the headlights positioned directly beneath them. The “Floating Diamond Grille” is a panel with a lit outer edge and 76 individually lit diamond-shaped points.

The Bentley Torcal features a high and relatively long hood, as is typical of Bentleys. The front and rear screens are widely extended. The black sections create a continuous, contrasting band around the entire underside of the car. This is the well-known visual trick used to make electric SUVs appear lower than they actually are.

The rear end is quite bold for a Bentley, featuring a notchback trunk design with a U-shaped black trim, slim headlights with a diamond pattern, and a relatively simple bumper. According to Bentley, the trunk design is inspired by the exterior trunk of the historic 1930s Bentley “Blue Train.”

The screen resembles that of the Cayenne Electric but has a less sharp angle. Additionally, Bentley has placed a panel right below the screen with traditional buttons for heating and volume control. In the center is a crystal rotary dial along with a start-stop button.

The seats are very sporty, available in two colors, with Bentley logos on the integrated headrests. The seats naturally come with heating, cooling, and a massage function. Bentley has not released separate photos of the second row of seats yet.

The Naim audio system features 28 speakers. It can also generate an artificial V8 sound in the cabin. Bentley recorded this using real musical instruments, including a drum set, an altviool, and a bass guitar. The sound is called “Bentley Dynamic Symphony”.

The Bentley Torcal has a cargo space of 460 liters and a 90-liter frunk. Bentley claims a maximum towing capacity of 2700 kilograms.

Bentley Torcal Technical Specifications

The Bentley Torcal is built on the Volkswagen Group Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform with an 800 V architecture, just like the Porsche Macan Electric, Audi Q6 e-tron, Audi A6 e-tron, and Audi A6 Avant e-tron.

The dimensions of the Bentley Torcal are 4983/2017/1674, 3023. This makes it the smallest Bentley in the current model lineup. Its curb weight is 2700 kilograms. For comparison, the Cayenne Electric has dimensions of 4985/1980/1674, 3023, with a curb weight of 2600 kilograms.

The Bentley Torcal features a dual-motor AWD powertrain. There are two versions:

Torcal: 604 kW and 1194 Nm. 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Top speed: 250 km/h.

Torcal S: 653 kW and 1350 Nm. 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Top speed: 260 km/h.

The Bentley Torcal features an 113.2 kWh NMC battery pack. The cells are supplied by South Korean LG Energy Solution, and the battery pack is manufactured by Volkswagen in Germany. Bentley claims a range of 600 kilometers for both versions. The maximum charging speed is 400 kW, allowing the Torcal to reach 10-80% charge in just 16 minutes. Bentley also states that the Torcal can be charged 100 miles (161 km) in seven minutes.

The Bentley Torcal’s electronic All Wheel Steering system allows a maximum steering angle of 5 degrees at the rear axle, reducing the SUV’s turning circle to just 11 meters. For improved driving comfort, the Torcal is standard equipped with dual-chamber air suspension.

The Bentley Torcal uses the same ADAS as the Porsche Cayenne Electric, featuring 25 sensors. This includes basic systems such as adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, and active emergency braking systems. Those who want more features must order the L2 Touring Assist package. With it, you can drive completely handsfree on the highway, as the car performs actions automatically like lane changing and overtaking once you engage the turn signal.

Purchasing the Bentley Torcal

The Bentley Torcal is produced on a new manufacturing line in Crewe, the brand’s traditional production site. Bentley has invested 350 million British pounds in this project.

Production is set to begin at the beginning of 2027, as planned. The prices in the United Kingdom are £173,300 for the Torcan and £199,300 for the Torcan S, which is equivalent to €207,500 and €238,500 respectively. The prices in the Netherlands have not been announced yet, but since the Torcan is exempt from VAT there, it will almost certainly be the cheapest Bentley ever produced.
