Bentley finally unveils its first electric car, the SUV Torcal

Bentley has finally taken the step forward. After several years of waiting and multiple revisions to its timeline, the British brand unveils the Torcal, its first all-electric model. This large SUV introduces a new family in the lineup, featuring a 113 kWh battery, up to 600 km of range, and 888 horsepower.

Bentley took its time. While Rolls-Royce has already launched the Spectre and Porsche has significantly electrified its lineup, the Crewe-based brand was still considered an outlier among luxury automakers. That era is now over. Meet the Torcal, Bentley’s first all-electric model in its history.

A new SUV, but not an electric Bentayga

The Torcal isn’t merely an addition of electric powertrains to the Bentayga’s lineup. Bentley treats it as a full-fledged series on its own, alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga. As expected, the British manufacturer went all in on this project. Built on the platform of the electric Porsche Cayenne, the Torcal features two electric motors and all-wheel drive.

In its standard version, it delivers 603 kW (821 horsepower) and 1,155 Nm of torque, enabling a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 3.4 seconds. And this isn’t even the most powerful version yet. The Torcal S pushes performance even further, delivering 888 horsepower and 1,350 Nm of torque with Launch Control. Bentley makes it its most powerful production model to date.

A rather radical way to embark on its transition to electric power.

600 km of range and a 400 kW charging speed

Beneath the floor, the Torcal features a substantial battery with a usable capacity of 113 kWh. Bentley claims up to 600 km of range according to the WLTP cycle. Its 800-volt electric architecture allows it to accept up to 400 kW from a fast charger. Under optimal conditions, charging from 10% to 80% would take just 16 minutes. This performance is essential for a vehicle designed to cover long distances.

Bentley also did not intend to turn its first electric model into a completely silent vehicle. The manufacturer developed the “Bentley Dynamic Symphony,” an artificial sound signature that accompanies acceleration. Interestingly, these sounds were created using real instruments rather than attempting to artificially replicate the roar of a thermal engine.

An electric Bentley paving the way for future models

The Torcal is also significant for the brand’s design. It incorporates elements seen on the EXP 15 concept car and introduces a new illuminated grille. This grille features 76 individual LED elements to create a distinct visual signature. The electric SUV will be manufactured in Crewe, United Kingdom.

Moreover, Bentley is investing over 350 million pounds (405 million euros) in its historic site to support its industrial transformation.

And the price?

With nearly 900 horsepower, a range of 600 kilometers, and a charging speed of 400 kW, Bentley is going all out with its entry into the electric vehicle market. One important piece of information is still missing: the price. At this level of power and performance, the Torcal should undoubtedly be among the top models in its class.
