Electric boats in the ports of Venice and Trieste, along with more charging stations and vehicles on land

The two electric boats built by Cantieri Mancini, with 330 kW engines
Built by Cantieri Mancini, a company founded in 1958 in Mirano and now in its third generation, “Elettra” and its twin “AP01” are among the few electric vessels designed to operate in port areas. These two boats, each about 10 meters long, are equipped with two electric motors of 150 kW each, resulting in a total power output of 300 kW. The energy is supplied by a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack with a capacity of around 330 kWh—a chemistry chosen for its safety, long operational life, and resistance to the intense charging and discharging cycles required in port operations.
Reduced noise, vibrations, and emissions—even at a local level—make them suitable for workboats in heavily populated areas such as ports and lagoon regions. Elettra and its counterpart are designed for personnel transfer and service tasks; both vessels can accommodate up to 12 people and are equipped with electronic systems including radar, electronic charting, AIS for identifying maritime traffic, autopilot, thermal camera, 3D sonar, and a weather station. Both units have also obtained RINA certification for professional use.
Another Pnrr funding initiative: charging stations, electric vehicles, and electric docks
The project was funded under Pnrr through the Green Ports program of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. For AdSP MAS, this initiative also includes the electrification of docks, with investments of 57.6 million in Marghera and 32.2 million in Venice, as well as energy efficiency upgrades for port buildings.

But that’s not all; here is the list of funded projects.
Construction of 8 charging stations for service vehicles in Venice and Chioggia €115,762.50
Purchase of an electric-powered vessel in collaboration with the AdSP of Trieste €1,916,000.00
Fund allocated to concessionaires for purchasing electric vehicles for dock operations €4,581,639.16
Solution to lighting and facility-related issues at the Port of Chioggia – Common areas: €1,215,907.00
Purchase of service vehicles for ADSP: 4 fully electric vehicles, 1 hydrogen-powered service vehicle, to replace diesel vehicles: €241,000.00
Infrastructure development for the dock in the Multiservice Terminal to supply electricity to vehicles at the dock: €3,811,327.00

We move on to Trieste, where AdSP MAO, together with Green Ports, has spent 24 million euros, plus an additional 46.3 million euros for the electrification of the docks, resulting in a total capacity of 46.5 MW. The port authority’s website lists calls for bids to purchase an electric Terberg tractor, as well as “charging stations for heavy vehicles such as port tractors, reach stackers, elevators, and service vehicles within the Trieste Port area.”

An interesting point is the collaboration between the two authorities, as emphasized by their respective presidents: Matteo Gasparato of AdSP MAS and Marco Consalvo of AdSP MAO.
