Fangschleuse train station is getting closer to the Tesla factory in Grünheide

The new Fangschleuse station near the Tesla factory in Grünheide (Oder-Spree) is now in operation. It is intended to support the factory’s logistics and, most importantly, ease the daily commutes for thousands of employees to Grünheide. Their travel time is significantly reduced compared to using the old station.
After about two years of construction, the new passenger and freight train station has been in operation since the weekend. According to the news portal RBB 24, it is located about two kilometers west of the previous train station with the same name, which previously served as a stop for the so-called Tesla Shuttle train and is now being demolished. Unlike the old station, the new one is designed to serve the nearby factory: it has five additional tracks and two 740-meter-long passing tracks, according to RBB 24. Additionally, RE1 trains over 200 meters long can now stop there. A new parking lot at the station is also already in use.
These dimensions are also appropriate according to the railway authorities. Their estimates suggest that the station could handle up to 16,000 passengers per day, primarily employees from the Tesla factory. Additionally, according to the railway officials, up to 24 freight trains could serve the factory daily, replacing as many as 2,400 trucks. The new station is located much closer to the production site than the old passenger station, significantly shortening the commute for workers. For this reason, the existing Tesla shuttle service, operated by Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB), will be discontinued, according to information from the Golam portal.
Although the new station is now in operation, there are still residual tasks to complete—also on the new track. Therefore, according to RBB 24, train disruptions and substitute bus services will continue in the coming days, especially at night.
