Ayvens, a provider of car leasing and fleet management services, handled over 53,000 vehicle damage cases last year that resulted in repair costs. While the frequency of damages decreased, the cost of repairs in case of damage increased. The company prepares an annual damage report detailing the number and type of vehicle damages as well as the associated repair expenses.

In terms of glass damage, significantly fewer windshields were replaced in 2025. The number of windshield replacements dropped by 3.8 percent compared to the previous year, while glass repairs increased by 13.6 percent. Ayvens advises businesses and drivers to have stone damage inspected to determine whether repair is possible.

For the other types of partial comprehensive insurance claims, damage caused by raccoons decreased by just under 12 percent. The number of claims resulting from storms and hail dropped by about 36 percent, while collisions with animals saw a slight increase. The most common types of damage under vehicle partial comprehensive insurance were:

Windshield replacement (57 %)

Windshield repair (16 %)

Raccoon damage (6 %)

Storm/hail damage (4 %)

Collision with an animal (3 %)

In full comprehensive insurance as well, certain types of damage decreased. Claims caused by unknown perpetrators or vandalism fell by over 5 percent, while damage from moving vehicles decreased by just under 5 percent. The overall number of claims resulting from loss of control, rear-end collisions, and other collisions remained constant.

Modern driver assistance systems help with tasks such as maintaining distance, changing lanes, and parking, thereby reducing the risk of accidents. Among the most common causes of damage covered by comprehensive vehicle insurance, unknown perpetrators or vandalism, as well as parking-related damages, were at the top. The distribution is as follows:

Unknown perpetrator/vandalism (28 %)

Parking-related damages (24 %)

Loss of control, rear-end collisions, and crashes (15 %)

Damage from flying debris (2 %)

Trespassers (1 %)

Despite a decline in the number of claims, average repair costs continued to rise. In comprehensive insurance, the average cost per claim increased from 1764 to 1969 euros net, while in partial insurance it rose from 1367 to 1959 euros net. Cameras, sensors, driver assistance systems, along with rising labor costs, contribute to higher repair bills.

The cost difference is particularly significant for glass damage. Repairing a windshield typically costs around 113 euros, whereas replacing it now averages over 1030 euros. There is also a difference between repairs done by manufacturer-approved shops and independent ones. Rising repair costs lead to higher insurance premiums in the event of claims.
