Audi Q3: a slightly cheaper plug-in hybrid, but...

As electrification advances in the market, Audi is expanding its lineup with a more affordable version of the Q3 plug-in hybrid. Yet it remains more expensive than a Q4 e-tron.
From its launch, the latest Audi Q3 included an e-hybrid variant in its range. At that time, Audi opted to offer only the most powerful engine available from Volkswagen Group for this category, with 200 kW (272 hp). It is now supplemented by a slightly less powerful engine already found in models like the Tiguan or Kodiaq.

The new variant, still labeled as an e-hybrid, now produces only 150 kW (204 hp). The difference lies solely in the power of the gasoline engine, which is 110 kW (150 hp) here. The battery remains unchanged at 24.6 kWh gross (19.7 kWh net), but oddly, the maximum charging power drops from 50 to 40 kW. On the other hand, range loss is minimal. Where the 200 kW version offers 119 km, this variant is rated at 118 km in WLTP cycles.
But ... why?
Available now in the Q3 and Q3 Sportback body styles, this new engine option starts at 54,100 €. The price difference is significant compared to the more powerful variant, which begins at 57,150 €.
Nevertheless, one can always question the appeal of this offering compared to the Q4, especially in these times of high fuel prices. With its large 82 kWh battery, its price is 46,990 €. Thanks to this carefully set price, there’s a enhanced EU subsidy of at least 3,535 €!
In addition, it offers a decent trunk space of 527 liters. With its battery located behind the seats, the Q3 e-hybrid actually only has a trunk capacity suitable for a city car, at just 350 liters.
