Audi further strips A2 E-Tron of its camouflage

Audi has revealed new technical details about the new all-electric A2 e-tron, ahead of its world premiere in the fall. Alongside information on the battery, drivetrain, efficiency, and range, photos of the now almost fully visible A2 e-tron suggest the camouflage has been further stripped back.
With the A2 E-Tron, Audi hopes not only to build on the legacy of its earlier internal combustion compact car, the A2 – but also achieve exceptional efficiency by combining both low energy consumption with extended range. “The Audi A2 has been a constant in my career ever since I joined the Volkswagen Group in the 1990s. Even then, its groundbreaking three-liter version made efficiency its hallmark,” says Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. “This is precisely the vision we are carrying forward with the new A2 e-tron: outstanding efficiency, excellent everyday usability, and a clear understanding of what customers expect from modern electric mobility.”
Further details about the model, which will debut this autumn with a starting price of €38,200, have now been revealed by the Ingolstadt-based Volkswagen subsidiary. Audi has released new photos that, for the first time, show the complete body without the camouflage seen in earlier teaser shots. Instead, the compact EV is now presented in a design wrap that reveals almost all its lines. The most interesting details, however, relate to the technology. Audi has now provided specifics about the Audi A2 E-Tron 140 kW variant with the Efficiency Package. This model will be equipped with an LFP battery featuring a capacity of 61kWh, of which 58kWh are net usable. This battery is paired with the APP350 electric drive from the Volkswagen Group, which is already used in the VW ID.3 Neo, the facelifted Cupra Born, and the MEB models from Škoda.
In the 140kW power class, combined with the optional Efficiency Package and the 61kWh battery, the APP350 achieves a provisional consumption of 12.8kWh per 100km. While Audi has not yet specified an official range figure, the WLTP standard suggests it should be around 450km for this configuration. At a DC fast-charging station, this variant of the A2 E-Tron can draw a charging power of 105kW, boosting the battery level from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes. This is not a top-tier value; however, the charging curve is said to be remarkably stable.
Furthermore, this will not be the only variant available. As early as July, Audi had announced three additional power levels alongside the 140kW version: 125, 170, and 240kW, with the base price of €38,200 naturally referring to the lowest 125kW level. Larger batteries will also be offered, allowing the maximum range to increase to up to 649km depending on the configuration.
Returning to the Audi A2 E-Tron 140 kW with Efficiency Package: to achieve the low consumption of 12.8kWh per 100km, Audi relies on advanced drive technology, thoughtful aerodynamics, and a battery optimised for everyday use. According to the manufacturer, the body follows the principle of a streamlined shape: a rounded front, flowing roofline, and sharply defined rear. This design reduces drag compared to a conventional hatchback and lowers the drag coefficient to just 0.24cW – currently the best value among Audi’s compact models. Additional details on the vehicle’s sides include Air Curtains – channels that guide airflow to reduce turbulence – as well as Gap Reducers and Gap Breathers, which minimise vortices around the wheel arches.

“I am particularly proud that each aerodynamic measure serves a clear purpose, while at the same time integrating harmoniously into the Audi design. This creates a design language that unites function and aesthetics,” says Robby Pyttel, the engineer responsible for aerodynamics and aeroacoustics development of the Audi A2 E-Tron.
Technically, the Audi A2 E-Tron is based on the updated MEB platform, which is used in the Volkswagen Group for models from the VW ID.3 Neo upwards, but not on the new MEB+ small-car platform of the ID.
