Audi A2 as an electric car – from 359,900 kroner
More than 20 years after it disappeared, the Audi A2 is returning as an electric car. It’s become half a meter longer and roughly twice as heavy, but the pursuit of low consumption continues.

On Thursday, September 10, Audi will begin accepting orders for the new A2 e-tron. The starting price is 359,900 kroner, including shipping and delivery in Oslo, according to the importer in a press release.
For that amount, you get the base model with 190 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, and a 61 kWt gross capacity battery.
The range is up to 515 kilometers (WLTP) for the base version, while the Performance version offers a range of 645 kilometers.
The first cars are expected to arrive at Norwegian Audi dealers by the end of the year.
From a niche small car to a cult car
The original model came to market in 2000 and was a small car that was hard to match.
Sales never met Audi’s expectations, and production was halted in 2005. In Norway, just over 800 units were sold, according to the importer.
Since then, this unique small car has gained a loyal following and cult status.

The aluminum dragon is gone
The similarity between the old and new A2 lies primarily in the desire to use less energy and make efficient use of space.
According to Audi’s technical brochure, the new model features a self-supporting steel chassis. The old one was the first modern compact car with an entirely aluminum body.
The difference is also evident in weight. An Audi A2 1.4 weighed 920 kilograms without the driver. The new A2 e-tron starts at 1840 kilograms — exactly double that.
The car has also grown from 3.83 meters to 4.32 meters. It is about 12 centimeters wider, while the height remains around 1.55 meters.
Only six liters apart
It becomes clear that the old A2 was good at making use of space when the trunk lid is opened.
The original model had a trunk capacity of 390 liters. The new A2 e-tron holds 396 liters with the rear seats up — only six liters more, despite the car having grown significantly.
With the rear seats folded down, the space increases to 1336 liters. The Performance and Performance Plus versions also have a small additional trunk area of 13 liters in front.
The older A2 model was also available with roof racks. Most versions could carry 1000 kilograms. All three Norwegian versions of the A2 e-tron are rated for 1600 kilograms.
The payload capacity also increases from 40 to 75 kilograms.
Three versions – one price
Audi is introducing three versions in Norway. All have a single engine and rear-wheel drive.
The Performance version offers the longest range of up to 645 kilometers, while the Performance Plus version is the fastest with 326 horsepower. Audi has so far only announced the price for the base version.

Efficiency continues
The original A2 was very aerodynamic. The most extreme version, the A2 1.2 TDI, had an air resistance coefficient of 0.25 and weighed only 855 kilograms.
The new A2 e-tron achieves a coefficient of 0.24. With an optional efficiency package, the base model should consume 1.28 kWt per mile according to the WLTP testing method.
The package includes low-rolling-resistance tires, 19-inch wheels, a sports chassis, and S line exterior elements. The price of the package is not specified.

Smart Details
Adaptive cruise control, rear camera, heated seats, and LED lights at the front and back are standard. The same applies to an 11.9-inch instrument display and a 12.8-inch touchscreen.
Audi has also retained physical buttons for various functions. The gear shifter has been moved to the steering column to free up space in the center console.
There are also three magnetic mounting points here. With a click, they can be used for things like headrests and other loose equipment — a small detail that fits well with a car known for its unusual and smart solutions.
The A2 e-tron can also supply power to electrical devices. The V2L function is available as an additional feature and can be used via a plug in the trunk or an adapter at the charging port.
