The Darmstadt-based e-mobility startup Amperillo, founded this year, has developed an evaluation system for used electric cars called the Amperillo Score, which is being used in a pilot project in Hamburg. This scoring system aims to help buyers assess the condition and price of a specific vehicle.

According to the company, Amperillo combines more than 150 factors—including vehicle condition, battery diagnosis, safety, recalls, vehicle history, model and brand data, features, operating costs, data quality, and known model weaknesses—to generate a score on a scale of 0 to 100.

According to the company, the basis is a standardized vehicle inspection conducted by independent automotive experts, which in the Hamburg pilot project is carried out by Hebel Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH (a GTÜ partner). The Inspector app developed by Amperillo is used for this purpose; it compares vehicle and equipment data, incorporates battery tests and readouts from the fault memory, and displays known model weaknesses. Amperillo then links the collected inspection data with additional independent sources and automatically calculates a score using a uniform method.

The results are summarized in a certificate that includes the overall rating and individual inspection categories, as well as photographic documentation and predictions regarding durability and expected residual value.

Private buyers can have an already found electric vehicle inspected or use the desired car feature to find a suitable vehicle. To do this, interested parties provide their budget, preferred features, and driving profile, after which Amperillo searches for appropriate vehicles and has them independently checked before purchase.

Sellers can also have their inventory of used electric vehicles inspected and certified, using the results in sales conversations or online listings. The independently documented vehicle condition at the time of sale can also help with future inquiries or disputes, such as those related to cancellations, according to the source.

"When buying a used electric car today, many pieces of information are available side by side: battery condition, vehicle condition, history, or market price. Yet for buyers, the crucial question remains: Is this specific car at this price a good deal? With the Amperillo Score, we aim to provide an understandable and transparent answer to that question," says Till Hohenberger, founder and CEO of Amperillo. The startup does not trade vehicles itself but funds its services through inspection fees paid by private buyers and dealers for the respective services.
