Amazon acquires the first Mercedes eActros 600 in Germany

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has delivered the first 27 fully battery-electric eActros 600 units to Amazon. By the end of the year, over 50 vehicles of this type are expected to be operating on German roads as part of Amazon’s logistics network. The two companies consider high-performance electric trucks to be a crucial element in transforming road freight transport and building a more sustainable transportation network in Germany.

At the beginning of 2025, Amazon and Mercedes-Benz Trucks signed a contract for over 200 battery-electric eActros 600 trucks. This represents Amazon’s largest order of electric trucks to date. Deliveries began in late 2025 in the United Kingdom, the main market for these vehicles. Amazon uses the eActros 600 on what are known as medium-mile routes, where goods are transported between logistics centers and urban areas.

"The delivery of these vehicles is a milestone for the electrification of our transportation network," said Andreas Marschner, Vice President of Worldwide Sustainable Operations at Amazon. "Electric solutions have been used for some time now in delivering packages to customers. With Mercedes-Benz Trucks' powerful electric trucks, we can now also make the longer routes between logistics centers and urban areas more sustainable. This is a true solution for the future."

According to Amazon, it has installed hundreds of truck charging stations at locations across Europe to support the integration of new electric trucks. There, these electric vehicles are said to be able to charge from 10% to 80% in 70 minutes. The e-commerce giant is investing over one billion euros in further electrification and decarbonization of its European transportation network, with more than 400 million euros going to Germany alone.

The eActros 600 has been produced in series at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth since late 2024 and is now in daily use in various countries within and outside Europe. Its battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt-hours, along with an electric drive axle developed in-house, enables a range of 500 kilometers without recharging under practical conditions with a total trailer weight of 40 tons.

In the most fuel-efficient configuration, with three battery packs and a total train weight of 40 tons, the range is stated to be up to 560 kilometers. Each of the three battery packs has a capacity of 207 kWh, providing a total installed capacity of 621 kWh. They are based on lithium-iron-phosphate cell technology (LFP), with over 95 percent of its installed capacity being usable. Technically, the eActros 600 is designed for a combined total train weight of up to 44 tons, and with a standard trailer in the EU, it achieves a payload of around 22 tons.
