Alpitronic adds a compact depot dispenser to HYC1000.

Alpitronic has expanded its HYC1000 megawatt charging system with a compact dispenser designed for depots of electric bus and truck fleets, capable of delivering up to 400 kW of charging power. The depot dispenser can be mounted on a wall, stand, or crossbeams. This new solution makes its debut at the IAA Transportation.

In February 2025, Alpitronic introduced the HYC1000 as its first charging system in which the power modules are not located within the charging columns, as usual for this Italian manufacturer, but rather in a separate power cabinet.
It contains eight Power Stacks, each with 125 kW, which together can provide a charging capacity of up to one megawatt. The system distributes this power in 62.5-kW increments across up to eight outputs. Alpitronic now states that the efficiency of the Power Cabinet reaches up to 98.2 percent, compared to 97.5 percent previously.
To date, three types of dispensers have been compatible with the Power Cabinet: the MCS Dispenser with an MCS plug (up to 1,500 A, 1,000 kW), optionally supplemented by a CCS plug (600 A, 600 kW); the HP Dispenser with a CCS plug for over 1,000 A and up to 1,000 kW; and the EV Dispenser with up to two CCS plugs (600 A, 600 kW). The Depot Dispenser adds a new variant designed for charging electric bus and truck fleets in depots.
Compact and flexibly installable
Even in appearance, the depot dispenser differs significantly from the other HYC1000 dispensers. Instead of a 2.32-meter-tall column weighing up to 350 kilograms, it is a housing measuring 600×400×250 millimeters. Depending on the configuration, this dispenser weighs up to 35 kilograms, not including the charging cable.
The dispenser can be mounted on a wall, on a pedestal, or on a crossbeam or under the hall ceiling. The charging cables are available in lengths of 2.0, 5.5, and 7.5 meters. The longest variant is likely needed when mounting it overhead, as the cable must extend from above to the vehicle’s charging port.
Another difference relates to the charging capacity. The depot dispenser features a CCS connector and operates within a voltage range of 150 to 1,000 volts. Alpitronic specifies a peak current of 400 amperes. This results in the stated 400 kW, but only for vehicles with a voltage level close to 1,000 volts. Thus, the depot dispenser operates at the same level as the uncooled cable in the EV dispenser, which also reaches 400 A.

Alpitronic omits a touchscreen like those found on larger charging stations in its depot dispenser. The charging status is indicated by a status LED. RFID is used for authentication. Optionally, according to Alpitronic, card readers for credit and debit cards as well as a QR code reader are available. This setup allows operators to enable charging not only for their own vehicles but also for guest vehicles.
This aligns with depot-sharing models recently introduced by companies such as Smatrics, TST Logistik with dragonize, and the Depotcharge platform, where activation and billing are handled through a backend system. However, with card readers, the dispenser is also suitable for publicly accessible charging points. Under the EU AFIR regulation, such sites must support ad-hoc card payments for installations of 50 kW or higher.
A DC meter compliant with calibration regulations is available as an option. The enclosure meets IP55 protection standards and is designed for indoor and outdoor use between -30 and +55 degrees Celsius. For larger dispensers, Alpitronic specifies IP54 protection. The Depot dispenser consumes less than 25 watts in standby mode, while the other dispensers use up to 82 watts.
Durability over peak performance
As bus and truck fleets become increasingly electrified, Alpitronic is now expanding its portfolio to include depot charging. Factors such as grid connectivity, vehicle downtime, available charging windows, and fleet growth determine the exact power requirements at each charging point at any given time. According to Alpitronic, the HYC1000’s Power Cabinet distributes the available power appropriately among the connected depot chargers. This allows operators to initially tailor their infrastructure to their current fleet size and later expand it as new vehicles are added or operational requirements change.

The Depot Dispenser will first be launched in Europe, with additional markets following. Alpitronic has not yet disclosed prices. The new Depot Dispenser will be presented to the public for the first time at the IAA Transportation (Pavilion 13, Booth E11).
