Current: Tesla to announce details on Semi launch in Europe at truck show in September

It had been possible for some time to determine from the exhibitor list that Tesla would be present with the Semi at the commercial vehicle exhibition IAA Transportation 2026 starting in mid-September in Hannover. By Thursday, this entry was no longer available, but that does not mean Tesla has pulled out: On the contrary, the company announced it would reveal the specifications for the European Semi and details about its market launch at the exhibition.

Tesla’s Info on the Euro-Semi at the Exhibition

The IAA Transportation, formerly known as IAA Nutzfahrzeuge, takes place every two years alternately with the nearly identical automobile exhibition. As early as 2024, Tesla brought two Semi trucks to Hannover and offered test rides around the site. Dan Priestley, who oversees Tesla’s truck program, was also on site. At that time, he confirmed that the Semi would come to Europe as well but was not very specific regarding timelines based on current data.

This could change this September. While Tesla’s announcement on Thursday still lacks specific details, it does confirm that the Semi’s specifications for Europe will be unveiled at the exhibition. Priestley said at last year’s IAA Truck show that its weight and dimensions would already meet current regulations for that market.

Tesla also plans to use the exhibition to provide details on the Semi’s launch in Europe. As such, an exact release date is likely to be announced, and orders may even open soon. However, deliveries to Europe are not expected before 2027. According to Tesla, the first production Semi for the U.S. rolled off the assembly line in April. The factory in Nevada is designed to produce 50,000 units per year.

Large Semi-Orders in the USA

As Tesla executive Priestley said two years ago, the American market is supposed to be supplied with all-electric semi-trucks before the European market. A website updated this week announces that deliveries to the USA will begin this year. Demand there also appears to be high: Following several other orders, it was only on Tuesday that transport company Einride announced its intention to add 500 Tesla Sems to its fleet.
