Currently: Tesla offers the Model Y Premium in the US with a V2L adapter for external power output

Electric vehicles place heavy demands on the power grid, but they can also help alleviate that load when managed properly — their batteries can absorb electricity while parked and feed it back into the grid when needed. Such Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) solutions currently exist only as pilot projects, but a less demanding use of stationary electric vehicles is already gaining traction: V2L, or Vehicle-to-Load, which allows the battery to supply electricity externally through a plug. This feature is now available in the premium versions of the Tesla Model Y, though currently only in the USA.
V2L Adapter for Tesla Model Y
The Model Y Premium gains new V2L capabilities thanks to an accessory called the “Tesla Outlet Adapter,” which is now available in the U.S. online store. Additionally, the V2L adapter can be selected as an extra option when configuring a Model Y Premium. In both cases, it costs $80 plus sales tax. To use it, the Mobile Connector power outlet solution is also required, which comes standard with newly ordered Model Y vehicles in the U.S.
To use V2L with the Model Y, the plug of the Mobile Connector is inserted into the electric car’s charging port as usual. However, instead of a cable leading to a wall outlet at the other end, there is an adapter (see photo above) — which in turn provides two US-style outlets into which electrical devices can be plugged. According to Tesla’s website, the maximum possible power output is 2.4 kilowatts or 20 amps at (the standard in the US) 120 volts.
Cybertruck with Vehicle-to-home
The Model Y Premium, available in the US with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, is not the first Tesla to support V2L: The Cybertruck leads in this regard, as it already comes with additional technology for V2H, allowing power supply to an entire house from the electric vehicle’s battery. For the new Model Y Performance, on the market in the US since October 2025, an outlet adapter is also available, and the even newer Model Y L with six seats already has the V2L option there as well.
Europe, on the other hand, has not yet had either a Tesla Model Y Long Range nor any other electric vehicle from the brand with V2L. According to speculation in forums, this could change soon. It is also possible that Tesla might introduce this feature later for the standard versions of the Model Y as well as for the Model 3. According to the publication Not a Tesla App, the latest revision of the Power Conversion System (PCS) component is required for this. In the case of the Model Y Premium, the switch to V2L reportedly took place in the United States in June. Previously built units apparently do not qualify for V2L with a Tesla adapter.
New Tesla hardware required
It was initially unclear whether the switch had already been made for the Model Y produced at Tesla’s German factory. However, according to the report, it is possible to check whether one’s own electric car has PCS2 by logging into Tesla’s account and searching for the adapter in the shop. Alternatively, one can search for “assembly power conversion” in the electronic parts catalog. The information provided for one’s vehicle number will then indicate whether PCS2 is installed.
