Current: Clues to Tesla Model Y L found on European websites, launch may be imminent

Tesla already offers the Model Y L in China, several smaller markets, and recently surprisingly also in the US. This is an extended version of the Model Y featuring six seats arranged in three rows. Europe still has to wait for it, although the six-seater received EU type approval as early as late 2025. However, this could change soon, as hints of the Model Y L have now appeared for the first time in Tesla’s configurator for European countries.

Indications on Tesla’s Website

In most browsers, it’s also possible to view the source code of websites, meaning the programming behind them, and sometimes this contains more information than what is visible when accessing the site normally. In the past, this has occasionally allowed early knowledge of upcoming updates from Tesla, and now there might be another case with the Model Y L: Initially, a mention of the long version was found in the source code of the Model Y ordering page, and shortly after, a photo of it in the “Stealth Grey” paint color appeared (see above).

According to reports on X, this applies both to the Norwegian version of the site as well as the German and other European countries. This suggests that Tesla has indeed created the website requirements necessary for selling the Model Y L in this region as well. A type approval for the EU already exists, as revealed by a leak at the end of 2025. However, it refers to the Tesla Model Y L produced at the Gigafactory in China, where it was first launched globally in the summer of 2025.

The website leaks indicate that the six-seater electric car will soon be available in Europe as well, but they do not provide final confirmation. In case of doubt, it could happen quickly — Friday is considered the day Tesla likes to introduce new options. If a type approval for the Model Y L from the Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany, does not follow, Europe will likely be supplied from China for now. According to available data, the L version of Tesla is just under 5 meters long and has a slightly larger battery capacity of 88 kWh compared to the regular Model Y.

Model Y L in China 3000 Euro more expensive

Naturally, it remains unclear at what price Tesla will bring the Model Y L to Germany and Europe. In the US, it is currently only available in a Launch Series with many extras, which costs $61,990 — $4,000 more than the Model Y Performance. In China, although the Model Y L is also the most expensive option (at around 43,500 euros), the price difference from the regular all-wheel-drive version is only about 3,000 euros, and there is no Performance variant available there.
